About a month ago I did a fish-anywhere kayak tournament, my plan was to start at Elmers then move to the kayak launch on the island. This was the weekend after LA Sportsman posted the article about the guys catching trout on Elmers. Sure enough when I got there at 5:30am there was 12 vehicles waiting at the gate, in the ~5 minutes it took waiting for someone to open the gate there was another 8-10 behind me. When I got out there the surf was entirely too rough for a kayak so I didn't stick around but there was a constant flow of trucks coming in. When I left at 6:30 there was 40+ vehicles already on the beach, not counting the few more I passed coming down the road to the beach. Total shite show.

I was out there that weekend. They had many a mofo out there. Hopefully it will be a little less this weekend.

I was there that weekend as well and did the same thing, except I left Elmer's and went to Lake Jesse and caught a few reds. Our camp is on the back side of the island and that's where all the damn fish were caught. Could have slept in and just launched from the camp.

We also launched down old LA 1 just past Fourchon, where the water cuts under the highway. There are Posted signs all over the place saying that that area is a sanctuary under the protection of the Port Authority. Can the Port Authority write tickets?

They can probably arrest you. But even if they can't, is it worth it?

Managed a red, speck and flounder off the bank this morning before 10. Eating at bridge side now. About to drain beers waiting for my friends boat to get here. It's a zoo.

That doesn't sound very promising.

You should be able to launch a kayak this week from elmers. Just check the marine forecast. 1 foot seas and you're good to go. Anymore might be harder.

The gulf is laid down. Shouldn't be an issue launching any yaks.

Yeah, I'll probably hit elmers first thing, just to see if there is anything happening. Then go launch the yaks later.

We are probably going to be looking for some non-pier type fishing on Saturday before dusk and before they close gates.

I'm still at work. Looks like I'm here until 8:30-9pm and I still gotta pack and load yaks. Looks like tomorrow will be a late start.
