Luckily I'm not a terrible enough fisherman to have to eat mudcat.
I have a freezer full of white perch and bream fillets.

I set lines in the river in the summer and catch a lot of flat heads. I give most of those away. I give 90% of the fish I catch away so I don't "have" to.

If I cleaned and cooked you some and told you it was spotted cat, you wouldn't know better.

In cold water they're as good as spotted cats. I picked up a hoop net Saturday that had 39. You bet ur azz I kept them. Cleaned/fillets some, gave most away. They're not greasy. When you skin 'em they look ugly as shite. A lot of red. Let them soak in water in fridge. They'll be white as spots.

This...cut yellow streak out but after it gets hot do not mess with them

i don't catch catfish very often, but i wouldn't turn my nose up at a mud cat.

i'll bet $20 that if you did a blind taste test non of these posters up on their high horse could tell the difference between fried pieces of different catfish.

So, I know we have blue, channel, and flathead cats here... What is the real name of a mudcat?

Flathead bait.

Probably the best "legal" flathead bait there is.

They are not bad to eat if they come out of clean clear water. The ones out of Caney Lake are not bad at all to eat. We used to catch some big ones out of there.

I have caught them on the creek cleaned them and fried them up but we had to eat fish or go hungry.

We call 'em bullheads here in KS. They taste like shite. They don't get real big here either. Complete trash fish.
