Looking for something under $600 I’m contemplating between a smith and Wesson mp9 shield, Springfield, or Kimber micro 9mm. I’m leaning heavy to the smith and Wesson just from previous firing experiences but was curious on y’all’s thoughts.

Also I live in Kansas which is right to carry. I’m from Louisiana and go home a couple times a year. Do I still need to get a permit for when I travel home? This is a bit of a whole new world for me so i apologize for any dumb questions.

The Sig 365 is phenominal gun.

Its a personal thing though as I didnt care for the way the shield felt in my hand.

I think so. LA honors KS CCP, but without one I don’t think you’d not be able to legally carry concealed while in LA.

Please someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Also, I carry a Shield. It’s a great shooter for me. But it is worthwhile that you go to a range that loans pistols and shoot a few to see what best suits you.

Did this stop for you at some point? I have the micro 9 and I have not had any issues with this. Guess I'm just lucky because I have heard that before. Thanks

You can get a Canik for that price range too. Are you wanting to conceal or not? That would play into it too. The shield is larger than the micro 9 and the 365. I have not had an issue with any of those

Does anyone here have thoughts on the walther PDP? I’m seeing that for $600. 18+1 and seems to be a competitor with the G17. Only issue I see so far is mags are like $50 per.

Yes. I thought the shield was sized fine for it but maybe I’m getting it confused with something else

I’ve fired all the ones I’m contemplating between. I guess I’m just looking for more general thoughts/experiences before I make a final choice. I’d be happy with any of the three I’ve whittled it down to.

My brother in laws family has a crap ton of guns so I’ve fired a lot with them over the last couple years.

Avoid the kimber.

It's best to get a permit so you are always covered with states that have reciprocity with your home state.

Nah, you’re right. Shield 9 has been my primary cc since I got the first one the my local dealer received, at least 7 years. Just upgraded to the shield plus when they came out. Slightly larger grip to support the larger mag, but I find it actually fits better in my hand than the original.
Buddy of mine swears by his XD-s and I’ll suggest S&W every time. Grab onto a few and pop some rounds.

Now for your question about licensing. LA accepts a bunch of CC permits from other states, including Kansas. You don’t need a license to own a firearm here. Technically Louisiana is open carry, but you’ll be asked to leave a lot of places if you try around larger cities

You're gonna get 100 replies -- most of which you should ignore (But you won't know which ones, because you're new to guns - it's a Catch 22).

Of the pistols you mentioned, go with the Shield.

As far as your permit question. It's not a dumb one at all. If you are a Kansas resident (your driver's license is going to be a major determinant), you can't carry concealed in LA. w/o a permit. To carry concealed in LA you'll need a permit that was issued by a state with which LA has reciprocity.

If you're a resident of LA., you'll obviously be fine in KS if they don't even require permits.

I’m a fan of the Hellcat. It doesn’t get a lot of love here but it fits my hand perfectly and it’s 14 +1. Also pretty light for CC

Came here to say that. Canik has a great smooth trigger. I have the SC9Elite which is a double stack small enough to carry but big enough to shoot comfortably and be a home defense pistol. Never have had a single jam.

Missouri is CC (Constitutional Carry) which is what KS has, and is not same as CCP (concealed carry permit). CC is only valid for the state you're registered in.

I'm in violation every time I visit my son once I cross State Line Rd since I've yet to get my CCP.

This.... Get you CC for Kansas and you will get all the reciprocating states.

https://www.handgunlaw.us/
They have a map that will show you which states honor Kansas. Also have the different laws for each state which you will want to know. Something that might be allowed in Louisiana for a CC holder might not be in Alabama.

I have the S&W shield as well as a Springfield XDS and Hellcat. Of the three the hellcat is my go to and my EDC. Locked and Loaded has it on sale with the 10rnd mag for cheaper than I've ever seen it.

I bought an S&W S&W MP Shield 2.0 a little over a year ago and like it. I really wanted the Sig p365, but couldn't find one anywhere b/c of all the gun and ammo shortages about 1 - 1.5 years ago.
