i have the 12' SOT Heritage Angler from academy and i like it

I was seriously considering this one when I was yak shopping. In my research, the thing that I found to be a common issue with these is that cracks would form around the scupper holes very easily. I decided against it since I was able to get a much more reputable yak for around the same price.

ETA: I don't think Academy even sells them anymore. Didn't see any last time I was there.

I have the perception and the only problem I would say is your arse will get wet. It sits so low to the water that you will splash water in the yak, but it is fast.

I haven't seem the new ascend but it looks the best to me. I like that seat idea and there is a lot of room in it. I have also heard that it is easier to stand up in the new ones. So if I had to make a choice I would go with the Ascend.

A friend of mine has the heritage and he had a big problem with tracking straight. He says that is stays in his garage but the heat has caused it to warp. Anytime he stops paddling it steers one way or another.

2, 3 and 4 look like the exact same kayak, just with a different color scheme. Number 1 looks like the best among that low end group.

New Ascend/thread

FYI the Pescador 120 and West Marine Pompano 120 are the same boat. Confluence re-produced the WS Tarpon mold under Perception and ALSO sold it to West Marine (why they are charging more plus no seat is mind bottling).

That new Ascend boat is going to fly off of shelves.

You used to have to spend minimum of 7-800 on a Native Ultimate or WS Commander to have the ability to stand and fish.

The new Ascend with the tunnel hull designed to stand in, priced @ 550 is going to be a gamechanger.

Think I'm about to go ride to Bass Pro and check out the new FS12T. Searched the web last night and couldn't find any reviews on it, guess it's still too new.

Don't think it has hit the stores yet but could be wrong.

To the OP: new Ascend looks lightyears better than the others IMO. I used to fish out of a Pelican 116 and the other three look like it. The new Ascend should be way more stable and fishing friendly.

You must have just bought the previous model FS12T. If I bought one within the last month or so, I would be knocking on Bass Pro's door.

They had them in my local Bass Pro, that's my heavy lean now.

I don't really have this problem too much... It happens, but not often.

That ascend looks nice though. Seriously considering selling my pescador and going pick one of those bad boys up!

Honest question as this will be my first kayak purchase (I've always borrowed peoples'):

For days I'm not fishing, will I regret having the Ascend over the other styles I've included? Such as, will its weight and size and other features make it less enjoyable to scoot along the water if I'm just paddling?

Just wondering if the Ascend should be a 2nd kayak rather than the only, I was all about getting it until someone told me to think about it that way.

You'll appreciate being able to stand up

No matter what you are using it for

nope, it's light enough for one person to load/unload and the seat looks plenty comfortable

I don't know which kayak to get now.. I have the heritage 12' but I'm looking to upgrade. There's way too many options
