We headed back to Emporia for 3 days of Canada geese and duck hunting. We hunted with Tornado Alley Waterfowl again, and I cannot say enough about how great those guys are. After each hunt, they would hit the roads, scouting for the next day's hunt. They said they typically run around 200-250 miles a day scouting. They work their butts off before during and after the hunt to make your hunts successful.
We drove up Thursday and hit snow as soon as we got to town. We had a pretty good bbq dinner, then met up with 34 and his crew at a local watering hole. Good group of baws there for sure.
All 3 days we had 6 guns and 2 camera men. If you get a chance, check out BN Outdoors. Good dudes, and they have some cool videos out there.
Day 1 was a snow covered wheat field. We had snows on top of us before we were ready. Specks all over us, but they were closed. Finally about 8:30, the Canadas showed up. After some initial poor shooting, we ended up with 33. Most of the geese were the lesser, but the greaters were huge.
Day 2 was a snow covered corn field. Again the geese cranked up late, but they were everywhere. It was interesting because the geese that were getting up in front of us did not like something. If the geese came in from behind, they would fly over, spin around, and hit right in the pocket. We downed 35 greaters, not one small bird in the bunch. We had one goose fall into the blind between myself and the guide. It broke the blind!
Day 3 was ducks and geese over water and ice. It was a tough hunt. Generator running the ice eater, moved blinds, moved decoys. The dogs had to deal with thick ice as well. There were a lot of birds around, but for whatever reason we had a tough time getting them in the hole. We ended up with a nice mixed bag of 8 mallards, 3 golden eye, 2 gadwalls, 1 Canada and a Speck.
All footage in these videos was filmed and edited by me. The BN Outdoors guys will have something out in the coming months. It will be put together much better than mine, no doubt.
Battery life was short in the cold, and my camera died early on day 1. On day 2 and 3, I didn't get much footage, but what I did get was pretty good.

Day 2 & 3
We ate good, drank a few beers and had a great time with new and old friends.
We are setting dates for next year.

After eating some and giving a couple away, I'm getting the rest made into jalapeño smoke sausage. If it's half as good as my guy's deer sausage, it will be great.

Dude that's a lifetime hunt right there with those honkers. From what I can tell, Kansas had a REALLY good waterfowl season. It's crazy how different those birds act up there. Nice footage, I should have ours edited and ready to go in a couple days.

White fronted geese opened up again that weekend

The specks season opened the next day, Saturday.
We were just south of the interstate dividing north and south zones. Everything was closed in the north zone. Friday it opened But we stayed in the south because guides had found that corn field. Sunday we hunted ducks on that pond. One speck came by.
It was killing us that Friday morning when the first 3 flights were specks that were in our face and we couldn't shoot. Naturally once the season opened we didn't see those numbers After that in either zone.

Would love to make a trip up there.
If you don't mine me asking, what they charge per day per hunter?

The hunt is $225 per day per gun. The lodge we stayed in is $125 per night. It cost us about $850 each for 3 days of hunting and 4 nights in the lodge. There were 3 hunters. That does not include the tip.
The camp basically one big room, but has a full kitchen and is pretty nice. We brought a pork roast, gumbo, red fish on half shell, boudin and smoked sausage.

is it cheaper for just ducks? Not much interested in the Honkers.

The cost of the hunt is the same, no matter what you target.
Brandon will recommend your best opportunity, but will target what you want.

Those boys are good for sure. Leaving Monday to hunt for 3 days with them. We hammered them last year. 109 in two hunts
