I do not enjoy the hunting of deerz w/dogs, but I don't want to see it banned.

I truly believe the banning of one thing will lead to the banning of another, and we got enough fun things banned around here already (pot smoking, polygamy, skreet justice, just to name a few - none of which I've engaged in in years, btw).

Just because it's not fun to me doesn't mean it's not fun to someone else, so I say let them run the deerz w/dogs.

I would appreciate it, though, if it was confined to property that they had a right to hunt.

My dogs dont get on your property so why the frick should my sport be banned because of others actions.....the arguments on here are total bs....ll forms of hunting has outlaws so once the banning begins where will it stop? Give an inch and they will take a mile

I can't wait for my neighbor(who I do get along with) to comment on my terrier chasing his cats

problem with the neighborhood GSPs and chessie.. is they actually caught the cats...

but my gsp caught a cat in our back yard... now that was interesting...

What do you think disturbs deer more: A) A few dogs running deer through an area from time to time; or B) A hunter slogging through the woods or riding his four wheeler up to his stand day after day for several weeks on end (multiplied by several dozen in the general area)?

A.

I don't know many hunters that "slop" through the woods, or drive their four wheelers up to their stand. Everyone I hunt with stalks to their stand and isn't stupid enough to park under their stand.

Because apparently we are responsible for their actions.

I don't get this. Are we supposed to ignore those people because others, not in our area, do it right?

The ones I know spend a good bit of time riding around putting out corn and workin on stands all day.

The thing is, it's hard to make laws governing swamp hunters and red dirt hunters. It's not even the same thing.

Seen you use redneck a lot in this thread but I personally know more coonasses that do this. It isn't hunting. You surround an area and turn the dogs loose and then shoot what comes out. Real hunting there champ. Congrats on the target practice.

i'm pretty sure being pursued by dogs is more alarming to a deer than a hunter walking to his stand, not actively pursuing the deer.

And it my experience, that is wrong. You see when you walk to a stand, EVERY deer that knows you are there is CONCERNED because deer are afraid of humans pretty much ALL the time.

On the other hand, dogs don't really bother deer and most of the time, they aren't that threatened by them. So, when a dog runs a deer, THAT particular deer becomes concerned once it realizes what is going on, but the other deer in the area usually care that much about dogs.

Deer don't leave an area because of dogs. They merely avoid the dogs and go about their routines as much as possible.

this. i have no problem with people doing whatever they want on their own property. personally i don't get any jollies out of hunting on right of ways over a feeder, but i don't have a problem with other people doing what they want on their own land. just keep it there.

All I'm reading about is people riding around in trucks on roads, shooting down property lines and roads, and crap like that. I don't see one single person complaining about what I do, other than it has dogs involved and they don't like it.

I've seen what most people call "stalking" and I stand by my word choice of "slogging".

same thing they do with squirrels, moles, nutria, armadillos, frogs, lizards... and coons.

play with them till they are no longer fun to play with...

GSP doesn't mess with the larger animals like the chessie did - or hasn't since chessie died..

neither would play with the neighborhood opossums... they just bark at them...

Agree with this. That's why I think adding deer under the livestock statute should be a great compromise. To those responsible, it's no issue. To those not, land owners may shoot the dogs on their property running the deer they are hunting, if they choose to do so, without legal recourse from the dog owners.

And one more thing, early in the season in areas where there are lots of deer, it is FAR FAR FAR easier to kill a deer from a stand than it is using dogs.
