Great, doing what dogs do = death sentence. Dog shooters are scum.

I ask again. Do you shoot coyotes ? I hope not because they are just doing what they do. Shoot any other nuisance animals?

They should not exist, so that's an exception.

it is legal to shoot those other animals... if you shoot a dog.. the law will not be on your side - unless you or someone else was being attacked.

hat about a pit bull - roaming the woods with a hen turkey in it's mouth.. and your kid and a friend... in a ground blind in the direction the dog is headed?

A hungry dog won't drop a bird to chase a kid. What's your point?

And I hate pit bulls.

Some guys in our lease run dogs. (5000) plus acres. I still hunt only. I can't see that it bothers the deer at all. I have hunted and killed bucks the same spots they ran dog that morning.

So we are going to issue citations to all hunters who are in the woods while stray dogs are running on their property? You are outlawing as much as they are if that's the case.

Don't be stupid. You're a smart guy and one of my favorite posters on here, but you're talking to a guy that probably has more experience running dogs then you do so don't try to blow smoke up my arse. Dog hunters with a pack of "stray" dogs with no collars won't be "dog hunters" too damn long. Give me a badge and a green truck and you damn well better have a big arse jail cause I'm fillin up the first morning. I can get you pics of the drop and the standers if you want.

me and good friend were in that exact situation a couple years back... and our kids were in a ground blind down the way.....

his crazy self tried hard finding the owners....

I came across 2 pits in same area 2 weeks later making a woodcock hunt...they were eyeballing a young pointer.... warning shot sufficed...

landowner was livid i did not shoot both.

I never said that, but I know he knows more than you. Were you in a bad accident or something? It would be great for the board to know why you post the way you do.

Actually, you said that you DVR every episode of "The Gun Nuts" and that Petzal "really knows his stuff".

Dave Petzal is like Sesame Street for gun guys. It is the most basic rudimentary stuff. And much of what he says is somewhat debatable to downright wrong anyway.

i'm pretty sure being pursued by dogs is more alarming to a deer than a hunter walking to his stand, not actively pursuing the deer. personally i don't own a 4-wheeler but the people that run them tend to stay on the trails, not chasing the deer through their bedding areas and everywhere else that the deer can feel like they are in cover and relatively safe.

your claim that

quote:

Late in the season after the deer know they are being hunted, you should be downright thankful if your neighbors are running dogs because that may be the only way you are going to see a deer.

is just ridiculous.

That is true.

Many here need that. Do you even read the board?

This is just butt-dumb. What's next? Compare dogs to deer? Try again.

Dogs do not affect deer that much in my opinion. I know we kill way more deer during dog season than any other time of year due to the fact that the deer are made to get up and move. Most people who hunt do not have a plot of land large enough to run dogs so they feel that their method of hunting supersedes all others right because they are left to rely on baited shooting lanes and the mere chance of shooting a nice deer.

What grounds will you arrest them on though? You don't know that it's their dogs, so you don't know who put them there.

I'm not trying to blow smoke up anyone's arse. I'm trying to disband a group who collectively wants to ban my style of hunting because its lumped in with this redneck shite.

I don't really think it's that dumb. I'm referring them to being a nuisance. Don't see how deer could be a nuisance for a deer hunter.
Well maybe, I have killed does just because they were blowing at me

bottom line is hunter's need to stick together.... and work their differences out.

1. most dog hunters I am aware actually do it in the middle of the day.. .when MOST deer hunters are back at the camp on facebook, TD or having a cold one....

2. It's bad enough that a well trained bird dog can't be off leash in a public space.. yet cats and lap dogs can... case in point.. person in our neighborhood calls animal control every time she sees a guy in our neighborhood working his dog off leash - on private property - neighborhood has a 12 acre park... which the HOA association bylaws do NOT specify dogs must be on leash - there fore... ain't animal controls business.... so why does this person constantly call AC... because.. their cats roam same park.. all day/night.. catch the heck out of birds... even the quail i let go... their beef .. the dogs chase/catch their cats... cats shouldn't be out... their bigger beef.... vehemently anti hunter....

Do people keep coyotes as pets now? Dude, you're killing someone's dog, not a nuisance animal. This isn't Atticus Finch and the rabid dog.

I can't wait for my neighbor(who I do get along with) to comment on my terrier chasing his cats.

No, I could give a rats arse how you hunt so long as your method stays confined to your property and doesn't affect my ability to hunt the way I choose. I don't want your dogs, whether collared or not, on my property anymore than I want you, your kids, your cows, goats, chickens, pigs,ATV's or your vehicles here. Once it enters my domain possession is 9/10 of the law and finders keepers, losers weepers.
