I want a revolver

Never owned one, never fired one. I have no idea where to begin. What caliber do I want? Hammer or Hammerless? I won't be using it for CC just a side peice for wood walks / hunting / plinking / Home defense. I like the shorter barrels too but not the snub. Im partial to 9mm in my semi-autos...Thoughts? TIA

Get a Schofield remake chambered in .45 LC.... that's a nice pistol.
For real though. I love my Smith jframe snubby in .38 +p
If you get the air weight shite they are real snappy and unfun to shoot. Plus the j frame is just heavy enough you can knock someone out when the ammo gives out

This is what I carry. Maybe a tad bit longer than you are looking for.

You can snag you a 357/38 tarus for a few hundred bucks great gun for the money I love mine.

So what caliber is adequate for stopping a rabid coyote / bobcat and or home intruder with out being overpowered and uncomfortable to plink around with.

357 then...
You can shoot .38s out of it to plink with.
My .38+p is a solid round and you get 6 shots as opposed to 5 with the 357 on my snubby.
As far as the Taurus revolvers they are nice, some models had problems with the cylinder getting out of time with the trigger. Do some research. I love revolvers once I bought my first. I carry one more than I do my auto.

How much money do you want to spend?
A 4" ruger GP100 or smith and wesson 686 is always a good choice for general use. The ruger will be about 700 and the smith 800 brand new.
There are MILLIONS of very good used revolvers out there as well.
For what you're looking to do a .357 mag is probably the right caliber. Double-action is usually preferred but single action is good for what you want. I personally love a single action for anything but self defense. I shoot them better.

Revolver? S&W 586. Next question.

A 4" 357 is a very versatile gun. Even my hipster son can hit bullseyes with mine.

I have an older smith and Wesson model 10 .38 I bought at a gun show. I've had it for almost twenty years. Looks like this....
Handle stamped DETROIT POLICE. Use it to carry in the woods. think I gave $175 for it. I wish I would have bought ten of them. Also have my dads older model ten that is blued with a rounded front sight.

4" Smith and Wesson .357 in stainless is the correct answer for your situation.

These threads are no fun because they're too easy.
I think the best deal out there is finding used ruger security six with 4" barrel.
Orrrr you can do like I did and stumble on a used Blackhawk for $300.

I own a Taurus 608 .357/.38 with 4" barrel and 8 shot cylinder. Bought from Buds. A lot of fun to shoot.
