I was just joking, I was asking about it for Sonoma since I knew he was in the market

Another tip for a kayak is to put rod floats on your fishing rods. They are sort of like pipe insulation and will float your rods if you tip over or go under a tree and get the rod taken out of the rod holder. I did most of my kayak fishing in rivers with a small rapid every now and then so the possibility of tipping was there.
They sell the floats at bass pro and they are about three dollars each.

My how times have changed, back in the day on this website all the recommendations you would ever get would be ascend kayaks. I would always recommend native, wilderness, Ocean Kayak, Jackson, Hobie. Now most of the recommendations on this website are the same as what I previously recommended. It seems people have figured out that cheap does not equal good.

Recommendation depends on the budget.

Not sure where you get that anchor trolleys are expensive...

Good pernt. But to me paying a fee hundred more on something that's going to be carrying you over water is trivial

It's thought of as the "marine tariff".

Are you insinuating that people are risking their lives if they buy an Ascend? Couple years ago Ascend was the best bang for your buck for a new yak. I think they actually forced the market to react to their entry into the category. Now a days, there are more options at that price point, which is a good thing for the consumer.

Depending on what time frame you have to buy, keep an eye out on Bayou Coast, CL and Lasportsman and you may be able to snag a steal. Especially around this time of year; winter is usually a buyers market.
I've been keeping an eye open myself the last few months and jumped on one this week...
Was able to snag a older model, but nearly new Hobie Revo13 that had less wear than even some of the kayaks out on the showroom floors! the Hobies come with a paddle (along with the drive) and this one included a pfd and a sailing kit... All for within your budget.
When you see a deal like that, you need to jump on it, as it won't be around for long.
