I wonder how much school you have to go to to engineer an ice chest.

I have used Igloo ice chests my enire life and have never had a problem with one. I understand that the Yeti has much more insulation and is bear proof but since I live in Louisiana I am not terribly worried about bears breaking into my cooler. I also have not had problems with ice melting away in my igloo even in the dead of summer while fishing all day in open water with no cover. Some ice does melt but not enough to make me want to spend 10 times as much money for an ice chest. I can buy 10 Igloo's for one big Yeti. Can you explain the justification for buying such a thing? Is it some sort of status symbol?

What if you go fishing 2 days or even 3? What if you spend a week at the hunting camp? Dove hunt in South Texas when it's 100 degrees?

Yetis are meant for cold storage, over long periods of time. Regular igloos are not.

Gotta understand shite like pre-cooling.

Icechest engineering is a whole seperate curriculum

As far as indestructibleness, it's on par, other than the latches. My buddy who guides had a 65 we put the 65 outside in the camp next to our yeti and our neighbor's k2. Both the yeti and k2 kept ice longer. However the pelican still kept the ice for a long arse fricking time. They're good coolers, I'd just get a yeti/k2 before I got one. Ymmv though.

I'm getting the Pelican for a little over $200. It's my father's day present.

only issue is they are badly backordered.

Pelicans are also more suitable for a tailgate/beer ice chest. They're like lifting a cardboard box compared to the yeti.

Obviously most people think and igloo will work just as well. I, personally think that is what yeti was built for and I use the shite out of mine. The company has done a damn fine job at marketing their product. Good for them.

I have never seen grown men argue about ice chests as much as this board.

If you are able to buy one and will put it to good use good, great. If you see it as an outrageous notion to spend that much on an ice chest, fine.

Grow up guys, shite.

Don't know a soul who owns one. This obsession seems to be regional.

I got a bigass Pelican for my graduation. I'd never buy one but I'll use the shite out of it since it I got it. It is durable and sturdy as hell but its also heavy as frick. Does keep ice for a long time too.

I totally agree with you, I don't understand how someone can spend that kind of money on an ice chest. My plant gave me one, I sold that bitch, bought an igloo and still had money in my pocket.

I don't care how awesome the outdoor channel talking heads say they are, if you keep opening the lid to get a beer in south louisiana heat the ice will melt the same

How about you buy another $2 or $3 bag of ice instead of an extra $200 on an ice chest...

Are you sure you're talking about the same cooler?

I'm showing the 65qt Yeti weighs 27lbs and the Pelican is 35???

Not to mention you never have to worry about hinges, latches, or handles again.

No shite? It was a pelican pro cooler, I would have sworn on my life it was lighter than the yeti.

You did right with the Pelican Order, made in America unlike Yeti...better warranty then Yeti...and cheaper.

I have a 65 on my wish list as well. thought i dropped enough hints before fathers day but I was wrong...

This may sound like crazy talk, but don't you think over the long run you will actually spend more on ice?

I may be totally wrong though.
