I sure hope some of the rumors about them getting a place in South BR / Ascension are true, I loved shooting at HR but was hard as hell to over there ,

I can only imagine a few things happened. Either:

1. Sherrif said, if you bid I will make your life a living hell
2 Hunters Run got an alternative incentive not to bid
3 They just drove up the bid and said FU
4 Economics didn't work out (what they described in email)

This may end up great for everyone...two gun clubs. Maybe one of those properties is in LP.

With all of those big plans to move and expand on the east side of the river, it's curious that the no-bid decision was not made until Monday afternoon.

Just so long as they open up by May/June. I need to get a few rounds of sporting clays in before next season.

Well.

Didn't see this coming.

BR going from zero gun clubs to two would be awesome. However, I've lived in, or near, Louisiana long enough to not spend any effort getting excited until clays are in the air.

I never joined specifically because they were across the river.

It's plausible. They may have been exploring options and then made the decision on Monday. But your point is probably right: I would have played the cards close to your vest in order to drive up costs for the Sheriff's insider guy.

I wonder what happens with the new leasee if they fail to do all the items in their bid? Who will verify and hold them accountable?

I'm pretty sure that stuff is fully up to the Sheriff's discretion. He can insist on it, or completely ignore it. If the group he wants wins the bid, turn a blind eye. If the group he does not want wins, he can enforce it.

I think it's very likely that if the Sugar West group was the high bidder (and I still haven't seen that announced officially), that you will see everything listed in the bid specs and more come to pass on the property.

Time will tell.

after they made the other guys raise their bid
Making the other guy raise his bid would likely generate some satisfaction -- but that extra $$ ends up going to the Sheriff.

I couldn't see sinking that kind of money into improvements for a 5 year lease. Not sure how long the current Sheriff is going to be there, but the rules could easily change after 5 years is up.

what also stinks about this whole political mess is that the 4H kids were/are supposed to have their Senior and Jr. State Southern Region Qualifier there and the 4H State Finals were supposed to be there.
since the place has been closed the kids in the BR area have not had a place to practice all 3 shotgun disciplines that make up the state meets: skeet, trap, and sporting clays. most of the 4H clubs only practice 1, sometimes 2, disciples. the kids and parents have to work independently on the disciples that their club does not have the facilities for.
as usual, we have a bunch of grownups screwing up youth sports

A lot of the improvements are needed just to make the site a higher quality venue that will attract the necessary membership during the next 5 years. Many more are portable/movable, and while required to be added by the contract, could still belong to the tenant and could be removed if the lease is not renewed. I guess that would depend on the terms of the contract. Some of the land modifications are probably not that expensive for the new tenant, if they already have access to equipment and manpower.
