I found Kane's email. I can't for the life of me find his phone number. I think he is a man without a club at the moment though. Not sure if he's giving lessons now or not.

Ive seen guys out there with scotch tape over their non dominant eye to help them learn to shoot with both open.

It's hard for guys who grew up hunting that way to stop. But you won't believe the difference you'll see after a few months of sticking to it.

I shoot both eyes open with pistols, scoped rifles and all.

anyone else catch that the new bid notice by the sheriff is a point by point recreation of the original bid they accepted? It specifies the same number of machines, building to be constructed, type of turf grass on which fields...everything.

Thanks for the link.

One thing I still don't follow is what is the solution to the shotfall concerns regarding the sporting clays field (region A in the report)?

There is plenty of mention of the shotfall concerns, the cease and desist from the neighbor, and the closing of the sporting clay field due to the shotfall interference with the neighbors. However, they have already promised to buy 35 brand new Lincoln traps for the sporting clay field. There is no mention of where these traps will go nor is there any mention of how the neighbors are suddenly not gonna care anymore about shotfall.

Also, there is no mention of a sporting clays course on the proposed map. In fact, they're proposing to CLOSE a skeet field so they can add a 200 yard rifle range lane.

I have more questions than answers at this point.

Not just rigged, but also done in an exceptionally lazy manner.

I'm guessing it won't pass a legal sniff test

I presume someone will write a check payable to, and execute an agreement with, the adjoiner to allow this.

if Hunter's Run actually goes to all the trouble to win this thing, what are the chances that all those deputies around there will leave HR members/guests alone coming and going on the access road?

good luck having a beer after your round of clays.

It seems to me like it would be a hostile environment for all parties if it were renewed. It's obvious the Sheriff wants his guy in that spot for some reason.

From what I have learned, it seems clear that the new guy has some great plans and is willing to spend his own money quickly to improve just about everything at the place. Maybe the first owner or even a third party is willing to exceed that commitment?? Bids open tomorrow at 10 AM. That should clear up the situation, at least until the lawyers jump in again.

The latest, looks like HRGC is playing 3D chess and did not even submit a bid, after they made the other guys raise their bid

quote:

Today marked the deadline for submitting a bid to lease 1365 Northwest Drive in Port Allen from the Law Enforcement District of the Parish of West Baton Rouge. As we've detailed, this is the second bid in the process after the first was thrown out. It is with much deliberation and debate that we have decided not to enter a bid. The decision was not reached until late Monday afternoon.
Why Did HRGC Not Bid?
This was not a decision anyone took lightly, but there were many reasons that factored into this. The first is the long-term viability of the property to function as a gun club. The unfortunate reality is that most gun clubs will have a shelf life in a particular location. That is why the objective was to eventually move from this location. We strongly feel that this property is not the best grounds for HRGC. The area continues to expand with light industrial businesses. It becomes nearly impossible to function as a gun club while being a responsible neighbor on the limited acreage. Complaints of shot fall will only rise as more encroachment occurs. The usable space at this location is shrinking.

Secondly, it became obvious that Hunter's Run was not the desired tenant. The second bid request was structured specifically to match the initial bid from Sugar West/Poplar Grove Gun Club. Every part of the bid request was a point by point copy of this bid, down to the machine types and quantities. It is our opinion that the winner was pre-selected before the bid process began.

Additionally, the minimum bid of $5,000/month plus the lengthy and costly list of required improvements made the property even less attractive. The construction requirements, ground and drainage improvements, landscaping and blacktop work placed the cost way out of line for a 5 year lease.

What About the Future of Hunter's Run?
This is not the end of Hunter's Run Gun Club. Quite the contrary. We have been in discussions with three potential properties to move and expand the club. We should be in a position to disclose those full details in the near future, but here is what we can tell you at this stage.

All three properties are on the East side of the Mississippi River. The bulk of our current membership lives on the east side of the river. It is also the population center for many shooters who are not currently club members. We are excited about the potential membership growth for a club that is easier to access and even easier to get home from. Not having to cross the bridge back into Baton Rouge is a nice feature for many of our members.

The plans for our new club includes many improvements that our members will enjoy. Features such as enhanced rifle and pistol ranges that include a 600 yard range. Two Sporting Clays courses and a minimum of 4 Trap/Skeet fields. Continuing on will be our family friendly atmosphere and culture!

Stay tuned for more news in the near future!
