We went down to Grand Isle one spring, must have been April and a hell of a cold front came through. We were staying at cigar's marina and a bunch of guy were down for a bachelor party. They had a deck boat in the 20' range and loaded the boat up with ice chest of beer and headed out of the protected rocks. They cleared the rocks and hit solid 3-4'ers boat was bouncing all around, guys were sliding all around. The made a circle and headed back for the marina. They lost an ice chest or two and were visibly shaken when they got off the boat. It was a 45 second ride. They didn't take the boat out again that weekend...

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but how high do the waves have to get before the boat's operator has to use skill to avoid problems?
Do you take the boat directly into the swell or use some angle?

8-10s in a Glacier Bay 26' CC. Really wasn't all that bad. Caught 12 Tuna that day including a big yellow fin on a flying fish that landed in the boat while we were in the trough of two big waves.

Not going to estimate the size of the waves, but definetly had a few close calls with my old man as a kid coming back from the rigs off Cocodrie. We had an 18ft Cajun center console and that bad boy couldn't take waves for shite. We were constantly taking swells over the front of the boat and could never pump the water out fast enough. Good times
