All the talk about their taste, what's their diet?

The gizzards I cleaned had a lot of grass in them. They mainly live along the Oklahoma/N Canadian River and hop around to various ponds/lakes in the area. I doubt they're eating french fries on the reg.

I've never understood banding local geese. I don't blame you for shooting them, those local geese around towns need that. My grandfathers hunting club in Illinois has the state out to band on their land every year. They do something like 100 a year.

Then during the first season they hammer those birds. This year opening day they shot 16 and 15 of them were banded lol. Ridiculous.

For once I'm not being a dick. I think you are an alright guy, but you rode up to a parking lot and swatted these geese that were essentially walking toward you?

yeah. I've hunted the lake before and shot them coming in to the lake, but when I swung by the lake today, they were eating rocks in the parking area - so that's where I shot them.

There is a resident goose season specifically to control non-migratory populations of geese near the large cities. This particular lake only allows hunting of any kind during this 9 day season, so I take advantage of it. You have to get a special license, etc...

Sometimes it amounts to "real" hunting where I throw out decoys and call to them with full camo as they fly into the lake. Sometimes you shoot them sitting on a park bench, and sometimes, like today, you shoot them in the parking lot. I thought the whole thing was pretty hilarious tbh. I didn't hide what I did and I'm not ashamed or proud of it. The bands are meaningless. Just thought I'd share with the OB - didn't realize I'd get the rise out of people that I did.

Imagine that!!

Do they have a season for the Muscovy ducks in the parks? If so, is placing pieces of stale sliced bread on your decoys allowed?

That is an extremely specific location, and pretty random at that. You live in OKC?

You shoot basically tame geese and then come here to brag on your "hunt". Wow. Great hunter.

I know, right? You'd think my last name was Busbice as much flack as I'm catching.

The city allows hunting on the lake because they are a nuisance and detract from public enjoyment the rest of the year. I don't think of this as some accomplishment, still it's fun as hell and comical that I got 4 bands out of it.

Baw calls it a goose shoot. Says its not impressive, just sharing. Explains a valid reason for the season.
