Went to Elmers early but only caught white trout, small specs and lady fish.

Wind + heat = Elmers is drying out and getting soft again.

Was afraid of that. I think I'll stick to fishing in front of the camp again. You plan on fishing Elmer's again this evening?

I'm here right now. Have a couple crab lines out and cast netting for more of those big shrimp. I might wet a line.

Tried fishing a little toward the pass side but it was so rough that it was pretty tough. Didn't catch anything.

I did RTB but launched from Elmers. I started off about 100 yards off the beach and was throwing a gulp swim mullet to kill time and never caught a thing.

How many reds were caught? I think last year they didn't even hit 30.

At about 12 I heard the coast guard say 30 had been weighed in. The guy in 2nd weighed in 3 fish.

ETA: winning fish was 39.18lb, caught by a lady in a canoe.

I believe they come to you in a boat, get your fish, weigh it and release it. I've never fished it, but seems like that's what I've been told.

Correct, there is about 10-15 chase boats riding around so you can flag them down or they give out a list of their phone numbers.

I started off at Elmers for a couple hours, then moved towards the rocks going out of the pass and never saw a fish caught. Moved over by the bridge and saw a few get caught including the winner. I tried cut mullet, whole mullet, pogies, live crab, whole crab, cracked crab, nothing.

Also saw a couple Hobies sinking, not quite sure how that happened. There was also a few people load up in chase boats and get towed back to the marina I'm assuming due to exhaustion or dehydration. The girl that won it last year from a paddleboard had to be put in an amberlamps and given an IV.

Sounds like it was an eventful day.
