i'm definitely not getting both but i'm thinking hard about the progressive

Another option is a turret press like the Lee. Here's the 4 Hole Lee Turret Press I've been using the 3 hole Lee turret press for close to 30 years. Speed wise, it's part way between the single stage and the progressive. I don't shoot high volume pistol loads, but I do go on prairie dog hunts periodically where I usually shoot a minimum of 100 rounds/day. The turret press makes loading for a hunt much faster. Lee does catch flack from some shooters. OTOH, I've not been disappointed by any of my Lee equipment. I've loaded rounds that routinely shoot <1" at 100 yards w/ all brands of dies, including Lee.

I have some LEE dies and they are great. Used on a dillon 550.

Ok you can never have too many presses.
I have progressives and single stages, they all have their place. All the brands make good stuff, accept SMART RELOADER that a NO!)
The Dillon 550 and the LnL both have good reps as does the Lee Classic Turret. But I know guys who use the Redding, RCBS, Lyman etc and their rounds all go bang.
I use whatever company fits my need, I have dies from Dillon Redding RCBS Lee Forster they all work great.
I also use single stage presses to swage 44 cal bullets from 40 cal brass, to de-prime everything with a Lee Universal de-capper, I use the single stage to make certain rifle rounds mainly 223/556 and I use single stages to trim brass cases after I de-prime and size

For starters I see no problems buying the starter kits from Hornady or RCBS(my choice is RCBS because I love the 505 scale!!! and I love the Rock Chucker its green) Lee is ok but I do not like their powder scale as much as I like the RCBS or Ohaus 5 0 5

Lee Universal de-capper

Good call, ninthward! I forgot about that tool. I went many years w/o even having one, but now that I have one, I use it all the time. A really good $10-12 investment. It got me out of a jam once when I accidentally broke a depriming pin while trying to load up some rounds before a hunt that was only a few days away.

KR, I'd add the universal decapper. Also buy a few extra depriming pins for your full length resizers.

As far, as WHERE to buy your handloading supplies, I get nearly all mine online. MidwayUSA has a great selection and search engine, but prices and shipping are more expensive. Natchez Shooters Supply has good prices. Midsouth Shooters Supply has best prices aroaund. Powder Valley is good for bullets, primers and powders. Unfortunately, whoever you buy them from, there's a $28 hazmat fee (in addition to the usual shipping fee) to ship each order of powder and primers.

Another thing that you will need in all probability is a stuck case remover. It happens sometimes.

The design of Dillon dies allows them to remove a stuck case without any additional tools.

RCBS makes a stuck case remover that works well on their dies, and probably others too.

I usually just wait for Cabela's, Bass Pro, or LA Gun and Reloading to get some rather than pay the hazmat.

If you're shooting pistol, you have a crazy selection of powders you can use to get about the same performance. Of course you will need to do a little experimenting to see which ones meet your own standards (muzzle flash, felt recoil, functionality, etc.).

Of course for rifle you need to be a bit more picky about powder since burn rates are much more important in long barrels. I would see what they have available that would work in your respective calibers and then make some different loads to test accuracy. Then you can make your next move from there.

Lafayette Shooters always seems to have good supply of powders.
Everglades ammo is a good o-line site for bullets.

I always p/u a pound or 2 of powders I use when avail. even if I don't need it.

I'm jealous of you guys that have nearby stores w/ a decent supply of smokeless powders. The closest store for me has such jacked up prices that even w/ the haz mat fee, I can still save $$ if I'm careful when I place an order. There are only a few stores in S'port that carry powders, including Bass Pro. Ever since the craziness hit, the most powder I've seen at my BPS is only 3-4# TOTAL…..I just received an order today of 4# of powder and 5K primers so I'm kind happy!

Isn't Springhill where Jerry Miculek lives? Go ask that dude for some powder. I'm sure he has plenty.

HaHa!! I wish……Actually, he lives about 40 min away in Princeton, LA. He used to work at Clark's Custom Guns, but looks like he's on his own now. One of my friends met him once at Clark's and said he's a very nice guy. Bang, Inc.

He seems like he'd be fun to shoot with and then shoot the shite with over a beer.

Ok y'all, so I got this thing and loaded up my first cartridges yesterday. 45ACP of course.

My next question is about tumblers and media. bapple recommend stainless. My uncle told me that he uses a normal tumbler with plain long grain rice. I'm torn on what to do!
