Hello- My Dad left me a German Lugar complete with original holster that he had for years. Anyone know of how or where I can take this to have it evaluated /appraised. It's in pretty good shape !!-Thanks

Step 1: Go to gunshow
Step 2: Tell people it was Hitler's personal gun
Step 3: Use gunshow loophole
Step 4:????
Step 5: Huge profits

Trying to find someone that specializes in Lugers and doesn't try to screw you out of yours is going to be difficult. Someone that is displaying Lugers at gun shows may have a lot of knowledge and be helpful. Very few gun shops ive been in had folks that I would trust unless the shop specializes in these guns.
You may have a very rare gun with specific details that sets it apart. Value varies greatly between manufacturers.
Since these guns have been around for over a century, thru two world wars, many have been destroyed which increases the rarity.
How much original finish remains affects value greatly.
Another consideration is the holster - it could be worth a minimum of a few hundred and go thru the ceiling for a more rare model.
The German occupation mark increases value on gun and holster.
I hope you're getting my point. There are lots of books on these guns that may be helpful. At a minimum if your gun has matching numbers it's worth over a grand.
Good luck

My grandfather apparently had an ivory handle German Luger from the war but it got sold somewhere along the way

man, that sounds awesome...I hope you never sell it or alter it. If you can manage to post a pic, I would enjoy seeing it.

Piggybackin on OP. Grandfather brought this one back. Never really got a story other than he took it from a German that didn't need it. He had the holster and another mag but they were lost at some point. All #s match. Don't know much about it other than its a BYF 42 and referred to as a "Black Widow"

Thanks for all the responses- Not interested in selling since it was my Dad's. I will try to find a way to take some decent pics and post!! My old flip phone won't do the job !

How times change. They brought back cool pistols, my buddy came back from Baghdad with a non-US model cellphone he took off a guy they killed.
I would pick the Luger personally.

damn, that adds a human dimension to the whole thing...wonder if they charged it up the phone would get an occasional call from folks who were not aware that he had been killed in battle...

I had my hands on a couple of gold plated AK's with pearl inlays that were no longer needed by their former owners.
Didn't make it too far with em though
