For All You Taurus Owners - Watch What Happens When You Drop One

As has been stated here several times, "Friends don't let friends carry Tauri."
Taurus Lawsuits
I'm sure M&Ps, Glocks, SIGs and H-Ks have the same issues.
eta: The dad definitely broke several of the "Four Little Rules." This happens when you rely on mechanical safeties. But the gun is still a POS.
Just my $.02

The first pistol I ever bought on my 18th birthday was a Taurus 24/7. I was cheap back then and it was in my budget. It has had thousands of rounds through it and not once has it jammed up. It's a good pistol for what it is. That being said, I wouldn't buy another one. It's worth it to spend a little more and get a S&W or Glock.
Now I use it as my knock around gun because I don't care what happens to it.

Who jams in a magazine while pointing the fricking gun at your family? My HK is bombproof, with absolutely no external safeties, but damn if I'm going to test that while pointing it at a human, much less my damn family.
I agree the gun shouldn't have went off, and I've had a gun go off in my hands without touching the trigger, but I don't believe this guy for one second after the rest of the story.

How did the round end up in the chamber?
He either already had one in the chamber, or had the slide locked back and slammed the mag in.

But what about the OB's beloved Judge?

I would almost rather carry a good knife than a Taurus.

own and carry two different Taurus models. One of which is a model listed in the recall. I have shot thousands of rounds from the two pistols and never had any difficult. Only issue is the grip on the 24/7 which had thin rubber fins on it that made it very comfortable to hold has worn down and the fins have mostly been torn off. I will likely look into the recall for this reason.
My gun has never had a misfire, failure to fire, or unintentional discharge. That being said If I decide to keep the gun, I will now carry it condition 3 instead of condition 1.
Biggest lesson here though is muzzle control saves lives and it is the first safety rule of firearm handling followed by trigger control.

Apparently this idiot left a round chambered while he was working on the grip?

Even if you do everything else wrong, if you keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, everyone goes home alive.
Rule #1. Reinforced at all times. Even in combat, with the weapon loaded and finger on the trigger with bad intentions - muzzle awareness keeps your buddy alive, period.

Sad and tragic but nothing trumps proper muzzle discipline.

The slide of the handgun closed when plaintiff (Simms) bumped the bottom of the magazine with is right hand. Plaintiff held the handgun with the barrel against the lower palm of his left hand," the lawsuit states. "The magazine still wasn't seated properly, so plaintiff (Simms) bumped the bottom of the magazine with his right hand again. At this time, the firearm discharged.
went through the palm and lower ball of his left hand, stuck his son in the neck and stuck his wife's arm that was around her son's body.
a few observations:
I wonder if the shooter was left or right handed.
If right handed, who inserts the magazine with their right hand? If left handed, why would he be holding the gun with the muzzle in his left palm? If his hand was on the end of the muzzle where it would get shot, how was he providing counter force for the magazine insertion from below the gun?
Why was he trying to do any of this with the slide back? If the slide was not back why was a round in the chamber?

assuming the Taurus has a last round hold open how could the slide be locked back unless he manually locked it back?
and if he'd done that why was there a live round in the chamber?
I don't think this happened the way the story describes
when my glock is locked back and I load a new mag a sharp rap to the bottom of the mag will engage the slide and chamber a round. If there were to be a round already in the chamber the action would jam

I think they are alleging it basically slam fired.
The chamber was empty, the full magazine was nearly in position, slide was locked back, he banged on bottom of magazine causing the slide to break free and close, the slide thus grabbed a round from the magazine and then slam fired as it shut closed.
If this is the case, why had the gun never slam fired with slide closure before and can it be demonstrated that it will slam fire again now?

Friend of mine bought a G2 compact. Didn't seem too bad. Bad trigger and unnecessary safeties but felt decent.
