My brother and I have our boat in pass Christian for the time being and are thinking of making a run to the Biloxi marsh one weekend. About a 15 mile run from the train bridge in bay St. Louis, so we'll be fine as long as it's not rough.

Never fished the area before. Any tips, things to look for, avoid, etc?

I can tell you a couple things to avoid hitting if you enjoy life and your boat:

1. the rocks about a mile southwest of the BSL bridge

2. Flatboat key (sand bar that you cant see at high tide that runs N/S). you will need to look up exact coordinates. It's between Pitre and the Pilings

3. Dont try and run through the gap just west of Pitre unless you enjoy getting out to push your boat

Thanks for the info. Is pitre as good as any spot to fish, or just start there bc it's the first spot from Mississippi?

Pitre is a shallow shell bottom. Hit or miss, usually best early in the morning. Stop there first, give it a few minutes and move to the marsh if shite isn't happening

This time of the year go west of pitre to the interior marsh between there & the eastern shore of Lake Borgne. It's where I fish in the summer too because I don't care for crowds at IAP, flat boat, etc... The best advice I can give you is get out there and start learning. I wouldn't suggest beginning that learning on a low tide. A high and/or rising tide gives you a bunch more ponds and lakes you have access to. Google earth is your friend. The thing I did was pick a bayou and learn it and everything around it and what connects to it (Little Bayou Pierre, Jack Williams Bayou, Turkey Bayou, or Bayou La Fee for examples). It's like learning the main roads. The closest to you will be Little Bayou Pierre (which is small and a quick learn) & Jack Williams Bayou. Find moving water in deeper spots or mouths for trout, shallow spots for reds, and ponds off or around them for reds.

Be wary of the wind. It can easily push the water out of Biloxi marsh and make previously transversable areas impassable. Other than that, the interior gets less pressure. Good luck.

There is an obstruction that destroyed my lower unit west of little Bayou Pierre that I had to go back and look up for you. It's just inside the northern point entering the marsh southwest of LBP's southern mouth. Here are coords 3006.269 N 08914.987 W. it's a square block of concrete so steer clear. If you have google earth just right in 2014 you can see a white dot at those coords. That white dot is solid.
