re: Duck Hunters: Post your first split report

Made 10 hunts and had a 12.7 duck per hunt average. Mostly three man hunts.

All public marsh in SELA.

I dont keep record but our split does not end until tomorrow.

Hunts have been fair at best. Very few teal, some bigger birds and lots of ringnecks.

Very possible. I'm in Klondike at another spot just a little north of the one you're talking about.

Our lease is in St. Landry parish. Just north of Krotz springs. We're seeing a lot of birds. Hunted about 8 days so far and average about 10 per hunt. Usually just two of us. it's hands down better than last year.

Gotcha, it would've been a long first split waiting on rainwater at that other spot.

Brass. I hunt same area, SCP and SJ. Has been my worst year ever. It's truly amazing. Yesterday was dream weather. And nothing

Troll?

I hunt with two buddies who do nothing but duck hunt. They know where the ducks are at. They're not plentiful but they do have a few spots with some birds. Mostly teal and gadwalls.

I guess I need to know what you consider SELA, because I do know some areas in that region that have been killing birds. But almost everyone I have talked to, including myself, has not been consistently killing birds (on public land that is). Didn't mean to rustle your jimmies.

Ha no kiddin. We ended up getting a hole that I personally know the farmer so water levels and field work has been effortless to control.

Must be nice. Our farmer is like dealing with a divorce lawyer. Bills like it, too.

That's ridiculous. I understand they can't go broke trying to change stuff once a week but I expect water and the field to be worked close to what I want at least once.

re: Duck Hunters: Post your first split report
I'm a SE La marsh hunter, primarily public but had a few trips on private land in Delacroix/Hopedale area. Overall, it was a very disappointing 1st split, despite being so long with the combined Coastal Zone and East Zone days. It looked to be fairly "right" heading into the openers but fell off after that.

Yes, some are blazing away at teal around Lake Lery and occasionally can get on some grays in Biloxi marsh or outer areas of delacroix but overall it's way off across the board from what I've seen myself and through my contacts that hunt from the northshore, to the Chef/Bienvenue area, to Delacroix/Hopedale/Reggio/Scarsdale down to Venice. My average numbers are down 100 birds for the split, despite having 2 more hunts than usual. With this front over the weekend we saw no push of new birds, any if anything felt like we lost the few we had. Sure hope it gets better....
