What says the OB?

That budget includes optics.

Helluva budget for a deer rifle. I'd get a Remington 700 CDL and put a Trijicon 4-12X on it. May not be popular on here, but I looked at one for around 1k last year that was as clear as I've ever seen.

After a couple boxes of ammo, you'd still have some change.

How long are the fields that you hunt?

I'd get a .308 with a Leupold Mark 4

That's a fat budget for a deer rifle.

I would buy a Sako 85 custom deluxe in 6.5x55 swede and put a leupold VXIII on top. That's my personal dream setup for a deer rifle.

You're going to have a ton of options there and what you should get depends on what you like. Do you want a nice wood/blue traditional rifle that can be a family heirloom? Do you want an AR10 that can ring steel at 1000 yards? Do you want a stainless/Kevlar workhorse bolt action to lug through the mountains in Montana? Do you want a bolt action long range tack driver?

You're obviously looking far beyond pure minimum practicality and looking into something nice. We need you to define "nice"

I've got a FN TSR XP in 300WSM with a Trijicon Accupoint 6-20X50mm glass on it. Used Nightforce rings to mount the scope.

The gun was $1100
The scope was $1200
Rings were $100

I grew up hunting with Remingtons and Brownings and this is by far the best rifle I've ever shot. It's marketed as a "stock" "custom rifle" from FN.

I'm not afraid to shoot anything under 800 yards with this set up. I've had it for 4 seasons now and it has been a fine rifle so far.

A lot of people have never heard of FN so it's definitely worth looking into if you are looking for a quality rifle that is reasonably priced.

I would think with that set up you would be pretty damn close to $2500.

At this budget, I would split that in half - half for the rifle, half for the glass.

$1200 to $1300 for the rifle - that's getting close to a Sako Finnlight - which would be fantastic. It might be a little stretch - and,

top it with something like a Leupold VX-6 and it will feel like you spent more money than you did on the combination.

Swarvoski Z3 4-12x50 right at $999
Sako 85 Grey Wolf in any caliber $1480-1528 depending where you look.

What a nice thing to think about.

I would probably go with this. Custom quality action, timmney trigger, fluted barrel with removable muzzle break, fiberglass stock with aluminum bedding blocks. Real world price of 1600.

LINK

For glass I would look for a nice scope on the used market. There are tons of great brands.

With a $2500 budget start with Swarovski glass. High end Browning or an American Custom by about 5 different guys is what I would shoot for. If not it would be a custom European rifle. stay away from Sako and Tikka trash no matter how much these guys pump it up. Only other American manufacturer I would consider is the Remington BDL 700 Sendora Custom line. Not sure if they still make it or not.

Lot of overkill to park a 4 wheeler under a box stand and shoot something under a corn feeder. More details would help this thread tremendously.

A Z6 w/ tax will eclipse the 2500 mark. Even if you get a Z3 (which is around $1000, and why bother? That's like buying a C-Class Benz or a 3 series BMW) and an Xbolt ($800 for composite stalker), you're still looking at $2000 after tax without bases/rings. Don't know where all that leftover cash is coming from
