High end Browning-stay away from Sako and Tikka trash

A Browning rifle is accurate but it wont hold the value of a Sako. If Tikka was trash nobody would buy them. They are accurate guns built cheap-you know like Browning.

Sakos are beautiful guns. It will be my next rifle. I might even part with my Browning A-Bolt to help with the cost.

A high end browning is great and a high end sako is trash. Got it.

I've shot a handful of browning rifles and there's no doubt that they are nice. I don't like them, but they all shot well and seem well made. Two were 7mags that really sucked to shoot and one was an older A bolt 7mag with the boss brake and it was a real pleasure to shoot (with ear muffs). All were a little finicky with ammo (I think that's a 7mag thing) but had very good triggers and nice stocks.

If I were OP, I'd spend about $1800 on the rifle, which is well above X bolt price. I'd have a sako or a semi-custom.

I have JP Sauer model 202 in .270 win. with a Leupold vari-x iii that is a super rifle with beautiful wood. Weatherby Euromark with oil finished stock is also a nice rifle.

Meh. Buying a $3500 rifle and topping it with a $250 scope seems stupid to me. Somewhere in between sanity lies. I can see putting a cap on the scope, for example, because there are diminishing returns.

However, at $2500 to $3000 total budget, I'm still at the 50/50 mindset there.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Back in the late 90's when SigArms was importing the model 202 you could get a deluxe model for $750. You can still run across one on Gunbroker for around $1500. It is a top notch rifle. Pretty ingenious how it breaks down for travel.

You can buy some extremely nice glass for less than $600.

In real life you can, but, not on the OB.

dumbass. you always troll these threads by bashing Sako/Tikka with literally no substantive evidence to back your claims up.

I don't see where he insinuated the frigging Tasco you are inferring in your post but I can only surmise you must be the 1% that can out shoot the average VXIII or Zeiss conquest. Ole Hathcock of the internet Glad to meet ya.

Thanks for the insight guys. I have decided to get the Sako 85 Deluxe. This is going to blow my budget, but I decided the rifle was worth it. I will add to the budget for glass...

So the next question is what caliber?

Since you posted earlier you'd never shoot a deer over 200yds then it's hands down......7mm-08

Nice rifle! I'm jealous . For straight deer hunting I like a 270. It shoots flat and you can take every shot with it. Even if you happen to go somewhere over 200 yards you are still good.

Niceeee

Do you want coolest or most practical?

For practical, .270, .30-06, or .308. Anything else is pretty difficult to justify from a strict practicality standpoint for a grown man.

For cool, sako offers that rifle in 6.5x55 swede which is IMO the sweetest deer caliber there ever was. Negligible recoil and it just flat out works great.

Sako also offers it in some other metric calibers that are cool. Definitely get a metric caliber for coolness.

This rifle will be one you keep forever, so it really doesnt matter.

6.5 Swede, 308, 270, 7mm RM, are all great.

Get whatever you would like.

Excellent choice of rifle. Post pics of it.

Sako/Tikka will shoot circles around Brownings of the same value.

unbelievable rifles with 5 shot MOA guarantee. one of my favorite actions on the market. please post pics once you get it. if you need help with ordering the rifle, glass, rings, bases, etc and you're located in Baton Rouge, come see us at Bowie Outfitters on Perkins.

what are you hunting and where? So many things go into caliber decisions. i can do a more detailed writeup once i know what you're using it for
