Only the government is stupid enough to PAY people to go kill deer when the could GET PAID for letting them.

quote:

The US National Parks Service has proposed a $1.8 million plan to hire sharpshooters to hunt and kill white-tailed deer at three Civil War battlefields over the next five years.

Deer populations at the Antietam and Monocacy battlefields, located in Maryland, as well as the Manassas battlefield in Virginia, are far above desired levels. The public is prohibited from hunting on the parkland, and populations have reached as high as 230 deer per square mile at Monocacy.

I think the problem is this. You've got to have accountability and insurance in case something gets messed up. I've never been there, but that seems like it would be the case

I'd do it for free as long as I can keep the meat.

100 coonass bowhunters could knock that down in a week. Need somebody to skin and clean them, and a bunch of cases of BudLight.

No doubt but still don't see where that can't be done with some supervision like WMA's but on an even more controlled theme.

When rut comes around up here in Virginia, there are more dead deer on the interstates than in the entire state of Louisiana. It is such a waste.

This will be the first year that you can hunt on Sundays in Virginia. That may help.

What if one random guy does $100,000 in damage?

1) How do you go about finding who did it to place blame?
2) What if the guy doesn't have $100,000 to fix it?

So you're telling me a man can go kill deer and the government will basically pay for the tags, processing, bullets, and gas for him to do it? Will they cover his lodging too? That sounds badass.

One deer per 2.7 acres. That's as populated as a cattle herd.
