i'm pretty excited about it... now it's just getting there and asking for the socom 6920 and it not being that much more than 1k, which is about what i am expecting. but the colt website doesn't define the price differences between their tier 1 models. so i'm HOPING the socom version isn't that much more.

found a shite ton of info from this guy's post.

LINK

and another helpful guide from this chart.

LINK

and THIS link explaining a lot of the terminology for a noob.

i am now less of a noob on the AR argument.... gonna have to research the ak/sks deal tomorrow.

Buying a complete AR is definitely a way to go if you want to have the accessories specific to your liking.

If you want to buy a complete rifle and find a Colt that has everything you want, snag it. If not, buying a lower and buying an assembled upper is my suggestion.

This is my 20" DPMS upper on a RRA National Match lower.

dual peacemakers is a nice touch. hell, that's a definite. damnit... now i'm going to have to consider putting that into my long term gear list.

also wouldn't mind a colt pistol, but i'm a long time away from adding to my handgun collection. got a good one until i get the rifles i want. xd-40.

Possibly. I'm in college, but if you mess with woodcock, quail and shorthairs then it's very possible that you might know my dad

.22 ammo will be the most plentiful and you can carry a lot of it in case of a Zombie Hord approching. So I would say any weapon that shoots that caliber would suit me fine. Any foreign invasion I will be grabbing an AR.

Spend the cash and get an accurate AK. Arsenal, Norinco, etc.

Throw an aimpoint and 2-3x magnifier on it and you've got a zero maintenance workhorse that will turn cover into concealment and will kill where an AR mames.

I've got ARs and I love them and all, but if shite goes down and I have to pick one weapon and go, I'm grabbing my MAK 90. I know it will go bang every time and is as accurate as an AR inside 150 yards.

bought the AR by Colt. as i haven't had a chance to shoot it, it feels better than i had hoped it would in my hands.

next step, add parts over the course of 2-3 years.

I actually bought it on Midway. It's simply a small portion of Pic rail that connects through the inside of your handguard. Here's a picture...

I bought this one.

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/771206/gg-and-g-ufir-under-forend-integrated-rail-for-ar-15-rifle-and-m4-handguard-aluminum-matte

You could also purchase something like this.

https://www.parts4ar15.com/ar-15_accessories/product/CAA-PRA.html

I wouldn't suggest using either of these to mount optics since the handguard is angled. But it's great for other accessories like lights and such though.
