I would probably go the AR as well. I have a couple of AKs but they would probably be given to anyone else with me that is less familiar with guns as they are so easy to operate. AR is just more accurate and refined.

For Zombies I would want a Ruger 10/22 with four or five hi-cap magazines.
For a FOREIGN invasion I would want an AR.
For a SHTF scenario I would take an SKS.

couple that with an oil filter silencer and you are in business. You can carry enough .22lr to kill every zombie in a decent sized town

For zombies you'd have to consider ammo availability and potentially stealthiness so definitely go with 10/22.
For invasion I would go with the platform I'm most familiar and comfortable with which would be the AR15 but for your everyday, average freedom fighter the AK is the weapon of choice. Easier to use, maintain, and our invaders will probably bring plenty of ammo for you.

currently researching different AR models atm, next up will be the AK models. i'm pretty happy to have found that i can buy a sig sauer AR for about a grand. that's better than i had anticipated. gonna check into AK's this weekend at a place called Mark's outdoors. heard lots of good things about it. i don't know how much more than 1 grand i'm willing to spend tho.

what kind of zombies we talking... slow and retarded like in the 70-80s or freaking fast and powerful...

If like the old movies a BB gun will work.

I'm gonna have to go with the AR. Slap a new bolt carrier and some different mags in and voila, .22 LR all day long.

I would go with the AR in 5.56, but would also grab a 9mm conversion kit. I'd take a Remington 870 with a pistol grip just for breaching. Finally, I'd go with my Beretta 92fs on the hip loaded with 147gr Winchester Ranger T.

Mil Spec AR15 with a 20" barrel, floating HG and ACOG.

think i've decided on the colt defense ar-15 with the 1-7" twist. thinking about a quad rail with an acog.

So you're looking for an AR15 to buy right now? I thought this thread was just for fun...
But regardless, that's a great choice. Colt is THE Mil-Spec and that twist rate is perfect for heavier military ammo. The quad rail gives you the ability to mount just about anything.
As long as you have the cash, that's a good choice.

The discussion for sights on any rifle used <200 yards or so begins and ends with an ACOG. Of course Trigicon knows this and I have a Reflex (1/3 the price) instead. In 2002, before the Gulf War, you could buy brand new ACOG's for like $400.
