Anyone know what they run brand new? Looking at the 18' Evo.
I don't know about the Evo, but I priced the other 18' model about a year ago and it was $27K.
That was with a 90 Yamaha, poling platform, trim tabs, hydraulic steering, bait well, trailer, and a pretty basic electronics package.
It was above what I wanted to pay for an 18' boat, so I stayed with the boat I have already.
I have my heart set on a 22' panga...that'll be in a couple of years though.

Thanks for all the feed back. I am still casually looking at boats, thinking about waiting until closer to winter for some price drops.
Anyone have any input on Frontier boats? I came across a few and the price tags are low.
Also, looked at the Makos price tag is reasonable on those as well.

The Frontiers are nice from what I'm told. The fit and finish isn't at the same level as the higher end bay boats obviously, but I hear the performance isn't bad at all for the price tag. It all depends on what's pushing it though when you are buying used. That's where most of your money is going to be tied up. If the boat is in great condition, the low price may be due to a lot of hours on the motor.

want to go super cheap, Panga Marine has a link on its page to another page where they sell just the hulls and you can finish them out yourself, saving thousands and giving you the ability to mess it up to your specifications. Also, IMEMSA, the Mexican division of Yamaha, also sells panga just across the border in Matomoros for like $4000 for a 25 foot hull. Again, you finish it here. Pangausa imports the Mexican hulls to Corpus and doubles the price t
Tboy you mind link that? I looked on there site and I can't find where they sell only the hull. Might be something I'm interested in.

DIY Hulls
There are a couple of guys on pangaforum.com that are finishing out those hulls from Panga Marine right now. Wonderful base hulls. Here is one of the threads. 22' build This dude is going first class. You can go so much less expensive.
Both of the guys doing the build outs and sharing the experience bought 22 foot open hulls for $6000. Panga Marine also sold them fabricated nidacore decks for right around $1,000 which they are going to glue down after installing subfloor fuel tanks and wiring. Of course you can glass in a wood floor for less.
You can have a fantastically seaworthy 22 foot fiberglass boat for less than $10,000, ready to rig a relatively low horsepower motor. You can be pulling deepwater fish from offshore rigs in a brand new boat for around $15 to $16k.

I like the idea of being able to customize it myself for cheaper. I am pretty handy and do a lot of my own work but idk if I can trust myself doing a boat. Are there places thy will do the work for you if you bring them a hull? I read about riding into Mexico to pick up a hull for dirt cheap. I can get a 18-20' for about 3-4k over the border. That would leave me with about 12k to rig it out how I want. Anyone know of a place that would do the work?

Tboy, another question for you. Can you mount a trolling motor on a panga. Nose seems high, will you reach water with a trolling motor?
Posted on 5/14/15 at 10:16 pm to GeauxTime9
Yeah, you can without any real issue.
...just buy the appropriate shaft length.

If you want to bow mount a trolling motor there are a few considerations. If you get a Mexican panga, an IMEMSA, you would probably have to mount a plate on the bow to mount the trolling motor to. There would be some customization required because the gunwales are narrow. It wouldn't be a difficult problem to solve, however.
If you go with a Panga Marine hull, they include an ample gunwale cap, and Panga Marine can sell you a mount for the motor. In either boat the distance to the water at the bow is something to account for, which means you would have to get a longer shaft and you would probably have to step up to a higher power.
You could always do a transom mount.

Look at a Hughes Redfisher or a Maverick mbcforums.com. They are center console flats boats with a descent v rake for bay chops and swells. These make great bass and bay boats. And most have been well cared for. I have a Pathfinder but was looking very hard at a used 21 Hughes Redfisher.

I really like the Hewes Redfisher 21. Do they not make the 21 anymore? When I check their site all I see are the 16' and 18'.
It is pretty much between the Hewes and the Panga. Still want feedback from a Panga owner. Also, the price is going to make a big difference. The Hewes run a bit more then the Pangas.

So after looking for a couple weeks I have found a few that I like. I am looking at the Mako Proskiff 17 CC and the Carolina Skiff JLX20 CC. These boats keep me in the under 20k range, they are also brand new and come with all the warranties. I have also been checking the used sites like LA sportsman, hulltruth, and a few others. Anyone have any info on these two boats? Or maybe some similar boats with a $20k price tag that I should take a look at?
