Big duck and geese question

My family owns a piece of property along the Mississippi River a little south of Baton Rouge. They dig for dirt on the land so there's 2 ponds on the land and a bar pit. The pit always holds wood ducks but I want to kill some big ducks and geese. Do y'all think those ponds would bring in the big ducks and geese? I stayed out there until 10am today but had to leave to get ready for thanksgiving lunch. Didn't see anything but the usual wood ducks today.

What's wrong with wood ducks if they're already there?

Nothing's wrong with them. But killing 3 and then being done for the day kind of sucks. I'd like to be able to kill 3 early then move to the ponds and kill a few mallards or greys or some geese.

Then shoot the woodies and wait. Probably not going to be a honey hole, but it might. Be a resting spot for midday, or a roost for late shooting.

Toss some fescue grass seed out when it starts growing dang geese will show up to eat

I agree about waiting on the big ducks. You'll probably never kill many geese there. From what you described it is not their ideal environment. They'd rather not land in ponds while down here . Most of the geese would be west of your property.

most hunters don't average 3 ducks per hunt...

I actually didn't kill anything there this morning. I saw 6 woodies but they flared for some reason. The water in one of the ponds is only knee deep so I figured the ducks would love it.

What is your decoy spread looking like out there? Somewhere like that I just use a 3 rig jerk string...

I had 8 woody decoys. I usually bring a mallard weasel ball decoy to give them motion but forgot it this morning.

If it drys out plant it with some millet and milo.

Yeah the weasel ball will shine in that spot. Just keep hitting it man, throw in a couple of gadwall or teal decoys in that spread to flavor it up a little. Toss a few at the other end, off to the edges, etc.
usually if the woodies have a "spot" then they will be there no matter what. Stay a little later and see if a few gadwall show up..
ETA: Like GH said, plant if you can...that can only help you.

It would be hard to plant I think. In one of the ponds there's water in only a couple spots. Most of the pond is dry. The other pond holds water year round. If I plant the one that's dry now, it will fill up with water when the river comes up after hunting season and then lose the water again next hunting season.
