Yes, and it's still closed in federal waters.

Big arse circle hook, as many pogies you can fit on it, and any rig southeast of Chandeleur through Curlew pass.

If they were legal.

If you hook a small one, hold out hope that a bigger one or a big grouper eats it....

Start at 70' of water at least. Cut pogie on a circle hook straight to the bottom. You'll catch something, it's the easiest thing in the world.

The hardest part is not catching them when you're dropping for something you can actually keep.

Those aren't American red snapper (our species).

Those look like pacific lane snappers. Probably from Mexico or South America. They are imported in through Miami usually.

Couple of summers ago I had two straight get mostly eaten by a shark when I was reeling them in. Felt a huge tug on my line then it went slack. Got it to the top and a clean semi circle and just a head left. Baited up and dropped it again and the same damn thing happened. The charter had a camera that filmed any fishing and the look on my face was pure disgust. The head on the first one was bigger than the one my nephew had just caught. Monster red snapper.
