Where do you get the ceramic parts? I have the carbontex washers which have been awesome.

I used to think Stradics were flashy until I got one for my birthday.

Holy hell what a smooth reel. The CI 4s are really nice.

I want to say I got the from bocca bearings.
You will have to do some research on the sizes of bearings you need depending on which bushings you are replacing but their are tons of videos on YouTube. If you aren't comfortable taking apart your entire real I would say stick to replacing the ones in the handle wheel for now to see how you like it. If you are their are a few bushings inside the reel I replaced as well

I like the penn clash, it has a braid ready spool. Probably the 2500 or 3000.

Ive taken the whole reel apart to clean it. I have used this reel rigorously for the last few years. Fish at least 1X per week. Have it paired with a Lews custom 7 foot medium rod and no other set up I have used comes close.

Then absolutely do it. I got the abec7 sealed ceramics which are more expensive but I figured if I'm doing it I was going to do it. It is quite satisfying when sitting in the boat and watching my handle spin at 1000rpm as we are running. It's also nice to know that I've got a good bearing supporting the spool and the tension of the drag instead of a plastic bushing. I can't for the life of me remember the other bearing I swapped out but I did swap out just about all of the plastic bushings for bearings. Like I said though their are plenty articles on fishing blogs and a few YouTube videos that go step by step on how to upgrade the stradics.

think I may go with the Ci4. Not much out of my price range

After reading all the positive replies in here about the CI4, I purchased one on Amazon. I got the 2500HG

Because you replied to a thread giving advice when you didn't even care to read OP

2nd the Stradic as well. For half the price, you can get a Shimano Saros 2500 (discontinued for the Ultegra). I picked one up for $100 (reg $150) and it is super smooth, I'd say almost as smooth as my Stradic. Brought it to Hopedale yesterday and it held up great against a few bull reds. Great little reel. Reviews will call it a "knuckle buster" but it was fine for me. I believe Cabela's still has them on sale.

A lot of Stradivarius recs on here and it's hard, in general, to argue against Shimano.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Okuma. I find they're great bang for the buck. I have a Coronado baitfeeder CD-65a. I surf fish and try to cast for distance, so it may be a little bigger than your dad wants but it may work depending on the rod. They make a 55a and a 40a that are smaller reels.

Also Penns tend to be very rugged. I also have a couple of Penn reels on slightly smaller rods for surf fishing in the first trough. I have a Penn Battle and a Spinfisher that seem to be nearly indestructible. I actually bought the spinfisher ata pawn shop about 10 years ago and it's still going strong.

Another vote for Stradic. I have 3.

Absolutely bullet proof.

Ok so the Stratic is highly recomened.
For a 100 less the new Sahara looks and feels pretty good. Is it a good reel? Is there a real life in use difference between Sedona and Sahara? What about the jump up to a Stratic? Is that 100 dollar jump worth it?

Yes I think is. It's enough money that you feel like you have something special but not so much that you feel bad about it. And yes it's 100 times smoother

I bought my son a Sahara. Only been used in fresh water. I do not like it. Something is wrong with it but at this point I don't know what that is. With any pressure from the bait, the reel almost locks up. Not really but it is just extremely difficult to reel.

Makes no sense.

For the past couple of years they have been taking previous years chronarch and slapping a different color and calling it the new curados.

I fear that is what they are doing to the Sahara/Nasci. Look at the similiarities.
