"that little butterball" was $800. Problem is finding a breeder that doesn't have a list a mile long of people waiting on a boykin. I've seen them range from $600-$950 in the LA/Tex/Ark area. If you ever go to SC, they are way cheaper. I think $200-$300 is common over there.

Something in .308, 30-06, or .270

Best ammo selection and easiest to find ammo for. Every rifle made is offered in at least one of those. None are overkill. All are adequate for elk if you ever get that opportunity.

What Downshift said. But in 700 Remington.

If you aren't wanting to do a lot of aftermarket shite to a rifle and have a really good shooter, I would look at a browning a-bolt or an x-bolt. Savage has really stepped up their game and is making an accurate off the shelf rifle. Remington 700 is arguably the best in the pack, but that's after a lot of aftermarket tweaking.

Calibers, my choice would be the 270. 30-06 and 308 are good as well. Others to consider would be 7mm-08 and 260 Remington.

That's what Larry Potterfield did for his personal rifle. He thanks you for your business.
