Any reason you don't see more bass boats in the marsh? Seems to me it would be a great hybrid between having a flats boat that can't take any sort of waves, and a bay boat that drafts a lot and has a smaller deck than say a 20 ft bass boat.

Go sit at Sweetwater Marina in Delacroix one morning and you'll see plenty.

Two reasons:
1 carpet
2 crossing bays when they are whitecaping

I fixed it for you. Whenever we fish in the marsh the boat gets absolutely filthy with mud and muck. You simply can' keep carpet clean.

Unless you have a jackplate it takes to much water to get on top

Kirkland made a bayboat and side console bassboat in similar hulls. They just did not sell a lot of them.

there's an old fella at my buddies campground in leevile with a 20 year old ranger bass boat and he catches limits of reds almost every time I'm there.

as they stated carpet and getting beat to death is a reason why.

My FIL has only ever owned bass boats and fishes leeville exclusively for reds for the last 20 years. He has an 18' Xpress bass boat and goes in every pot hole out there. Keeps a push pole for when needed and doesn't care about scratching it.

I'm still waiting for the day you boys still in LA will realize these boats they build over here in TX are more perfect for LA inshore fishing than they are in TX. They would kill it in the LA marsh system. Can run 60+, handle bay chop, and get shin deep skinny. The hole shot with the muddy bottom all throughout LA would be insane. Get up and running in a second in 8"-12" of water.

Are you talking about those big tunnel hull scooters? I'd pay good money to see someone try to cross Eloi or Borgne in one of those things. Also the mud bottom you mentioned is the reason why deep tunnel hull boats aren't popular in La. Another reason texas tunnels are only popular in Texas is because of the popularity of wade fishing, this is why you see all those scooter deck boats running around.

To name a few. SCB, Dargel, Explorer, Mowdy, Schoalwater, Haynie, JH Performance, Stoner, Trans cat, etc.

Yes, a lot of those guys buy them for wade fishing but most buy them because they can get you into anything and can also handle the bays. And I grew up on Pontchartrain, The Rigolets, and Lake Borgne. Would take any of these boats across them. Not wide open throttle of course but would def cross them without worry.

We don't really have the need for those hulls here. The few places you can take advantage of them wouldn't be worth it. Most of the time the high horse power texas boats draw a foot of water at rest, when you get up around a foot you're in bay boat territory. It just doesn't make sense here or else you would see a whole gang of big high horse power tunnel hull scooters lined up in places like Hopedale and Cocodrie. In almost 20 years of poling the flats of Lousisiana I don't think I've ever seen a texas scooter except around Lake Charles.

In the early 2000s Skeeter had started making a non-skid version of their bass boats just for the marsh crowd. I don't work for a dealer any more but I'd figure a few others caught on to this too

Ranger makes a nice intercostal model. I saw bullet makes a boat that almost looks like a bass boat cross also. That bullet is a bad looking rig too.
