I had planned to take off today and tomorrow, but the wind thing today nixed that. I am going to be in the woods all day tomorrow though. Between the rut and temperature in the teens, bucks ought to be on their feet all day tomorrow.

Will be hunting until I kill something or my arse freezes to the stand. Kinda glad most of my hunting clothing is geared for a Pennsylvania winter.

Several people I've talked with said they have to get up when it is that cold. I don't think they will freeze but they sure will get stove up. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm going to be scanning for vapor trails.

My question, where I hunt, the wind chill is supposed to be 6 to 8 until about 7:00 AM. Any reason to get there before daylight, or should it be fine to get there a little late and wait for a later move?

Normally deer are ..... kerpus***, some big word that means they like twilight, but if they are rutting where you are it shouldn't matter.

I'm going to start in a popup blind that I have in a funnel area. I'm starting there because I'm going to bring a heater. I have a box in the corner of a big arse beanfield (not planted this year) that would be warmer but where the pop up is I think will be better because of the high water.

after it warms up a little I will move to a ladder stand in the hills.

If the wind is not gale force blowing, Does will be feeding thru the night tonight and the better part of tomorrow. On the other hand, Bucks could give a shite about eating right now. They have only one thing on the plate, hot Doe. That is why they loose up to 30% body weight in the winter.

Best places to sent up would be the edge of a field/fence line with the edge being the North. The bucks will be walking just inside the fence line. Hunt 75 yards off it and watch down wind. Bucks will be walking against the wind looking for love. Doe piss is a plus right now.

Now the Does, they will be walking with the wind unless with a buck.

Hunted ducks yesterday afternoon and this moring. The weather definitely brought new birds. Had on fleece wader pants, neoprene waders and a good parka. Hands got cold, when setting the robo. Otherwise, all was good. LOTS of pintail in SWLA.

crepuscular is the word you are looking for...

which means active at sunrise and sunset.. like woodcock...

they move at dawn and dusk no matter what.

We had good hunts, but had trouble getting limits, because most of the ducks were pintail.

Hell. I'd love to. Haven't had to light the heater or wear my thick gloves all year. Probably going to be muggy again by the time I make it back out there.

Chasing deer tomorrow until about 900 seeing patients for about 3 hours then hunting until dark. Hoping tomorrow will be half as good as I hope it will be.

If it's really good my partner is going to Hate me about 930 when I am supposed to be there seeing patients!
