The last 2 times I've gone some idiot has done something remarkably stupid. I got legit scared at Precision last time I went. A guy was standing about 6 feet behind the shooting line loading his wheel gun.

The Sherburne range made me a little nervous. No range master and a lot of people.

At any given time at a range you could be surrounded by Marines or by people who have never shot a gun before.

It only takes one person who doesn't know what they're doing to make a fatal mistake.

In reality, first time shooters are often the most cautious...

They are pretty strict at Honey Island. You can slip up once, and they'll correct you. Twice, and you get to take a break. Three times and you're gone.

*that all depends on the severity

They can be as cautious as they want, but if they have never been correctly taught firearm safety then it doesn't matter. They let anyone who's willing to give them money shoot at the range. In fact they used to let people rent guns at a range near my house until this LINK

Obviously that wasn't an accident, but the fact that they would rent out guns to people without proper training should tell you enough.

Or what about the range that let a 9 year old girl shoot a fully auto UZI LINK . I don't think I would feel safe around 90% of responsible gun owners shooting an UZI.

Same here. I've seen some dude's with straight up arsenals doing extremely dangerous crap in Precision. One of them was fiddling about with a stove-piped pistol. When he got the shell out (chambering a live round), he dropped the damn gun on the floor. But for the grace of god I wasn't shot.

You should go to the shooting range at Tuskegee national forest. Zero supervision. I've been there when there is a good group of people there and I've been there when there are yahoos there with zero knowledge of range etiquette and hanging around is like playing Russian roulette.

Tuskegee national fores

I've been to this damn range twice and it was 2 of the worst experiences I've had.

A guy brought his son, 7 yr, to shoot a 7mm neither had ever shot a gun. Fired the gun walking up from behind the firing line before approaching a bench. Tried to hold the kids shoulder so he could shoot it. No targets, found out later he brought the gun into walmart to find the correct shells. Just strolled into walmart with his 7mm.

Another was a group of Auburn college students, just absolutely blasting the shite out of the ground with AR-15's hand guns, everything. As fast as they could reload and shoot it into the ground 10 feet in front of them.

In Helena AL, similar range set up. I've seen a guy full auto AK spraying everything down range. Hitting others targets and everything. He was promptly threatened.

Same range, 17 year old is shooting dessert eagle. Gun jams, he proceed to hit the slide with his other hand. Gun eventually fires about 2 feet above the guy next to him.

I HATE public ranges.

the range masters at Woodworth LDWF range are pretty forceful. Anybody who screws up is promptly sent packing. No margin for error in that type of setting.
