My son is begging for a four wheeler, but I don’t think he’s quite ready for that yet. I want to get him something, so I’ve settled on the go kart as I think that will give his mother the least amount of anxiety as he rides. 50cc or less would be ideal.

Are you talking the Thunder Karts with roll bars that we used to pack 5 boys on and rule the hood? Or a racing kart?

Either way I say do it.

Thunder Kart style with a roll cage and harness is what I’m thinking. The kid is a little too adventurous at times

Don’t want something horrible to happen.

I had a thunder kart and got into plenty of trouble. Flipped it a few times too.

We had the same debate last year at Christmas with our boys (6 and 8). We were torn between a four wheeler, a dirt bike, and a go kart. We ended up getting them a Segway Ninebot Go Kart, so it isn't gas, but the thing is fast as hell when it is in "sport mode", but there are several modes, which you can adjust on the fly and vary the speed to the level of the driver. It's super low to the ground and has the punch of a Tesla. You can extend the body length and raise and lower the steering column, so adults can fit in. Every time I'm taking that baby on a lap around our hood, I end up having to let some dad ride it. It's a blast. I've definitely ridden it more than the boys.

I bought my 7 year old daughter a Chinese knockoff 110cc four wheeler last year for Christmas. She figured it out quickly and rides it no problem. Now it is in open fields and our rural neighborhood street.
It depends on how daring your kid is though.

If he wants a 4 wheeler, get him a 4 wheeler.

By 7 I had a 70 Honda 3 wheeler that I had put a million miles on. That's not too young. You can govern the kid bikes way down.

Two buddies had them when we were like 6 or 7. They were fun af, lookin back they were definitely low to the ground. If it were me id try to find him an old fourwheeler.

We got our boy @6 a Yamaha ttr50 and @7 Honda 90 4wheeler both have throttle control(governor screw). After he got the 4wheeler, he never really rode the dirt bike again. But rode the 4wheeler all the time.

I'm contemplating this as well, we just moved out to 20 acres and the kids have their bikes and off road scooter but thinking something they could cruise on would be fun.

Been thinking of the razor battery powered quad. At least limit how fast they can go initially.

My 5yo son has had a razr dirt quad for about 2yrs now. Although, I did add a potentiometer to slow it down at first. Then wheel spacers I made once I was able to open it up, they move. He now has the dirt bike too, maybe razr 350? Both move well and the charge life is impressive.

There are people on this board that talk about which AR platforms have the easiest safety to manipulate so their 5 year olds can hunt deer.

I think it is safe to say there are some 7 year olds with go karts....

We got my kid one of the Chinese 4 wheelers last Christmas when he just turned 7.

He was fine with it. Just had to find his limits a couple times.

But he didn't care that he had to wear a helmet or any other gear.

Started mine at 6 on a CRF50 with training wheels, over a decade later he and I both still ride it.

Sometimes I even take the training wheels off.

Friend of mine has a 8 year old with a 110cc four wheeler. It came with a clicker that he can use to shut the bike off if the kid gets out of hand

He mostly uses it to piss the kid off as he will cut it off 5-6 times in a row just to agitate him
