Yamaha ttr50 and @7 Honda 90 4wheeler both have throttle control(governor screw). After he got the 4wheeler, he never really rode the dirt bike again.
That’s odd. I had a Honda XR 200 at 12 years old and a Grizzly 660 at 13. I rode both almost every day. That xr 200 is why to this day I can’t throw a baseball. fricked my shoulder up hitting an irrigation trench across a turn road going 80mph. To this day that 660 was the toughest four wheeler I ever owned. Got it in 2003 sold it in college. Drove it almost every day on trails behind my house in mud and water up over the footrests and it never gave me trouble except a couple broken CV joints. Loved both of them, and I paid for both with my own money from working on the farm in summer and on weekends. Sold them when I left for college along with my 77 K5 blazer hunting truck and 72 Chevy c10 that I rebuilt the engine in at 15 years old and redid the entire interior. They were both project trucks of mine. I regret to this day selling the trucks for college money
I’m realizing as I type this how much the world has changed just since then. I don’t see kids today that were like me growing up. Most of my friends were the same way. Hell we were sneaking into bars chasing tail drinking whiskey by 16-17. Maybe we grew up too fast I dunno. I’m getting sad as I type this remembering how awesome my teenage years were

There are people on this board that talk about which AR platforms have the easiest safety to manipulate so their 5 year olds can hunt deer. I think it is safe to say there are some 7 year olds with go karts....
A lot of it is just using good parental judgement and how mature the kid is for their age. Also their size and what they can safely handle.

I mean its a switch. I was shooting a deer rifle with just a hammer younger than 7. But man as kids riding those 3 wheelers were so much fun.

I got my boys a bigger cart w roll cage when they were 8 and 10. Trying to keep them off my golf cart and quad.
It really was a bit too big and def too fast. Don’t tell their mom I said that.
Capability wise, not an issue. Within mins they were demons on that thing.
Part of the problem with that particular model is that it was low to the ground and very sticky. So, just about when you thought you were going to drift through a turn, it would do an instant snap roll on you. Really had to watch it in the turns.
Two broken teeth, a concussion, and broken wrist, and many other bumps and bruises, I got rid of it and gave them my quad.
They never flipped or wrecked it, that I know of.
While the cart was certainly part of the issue, but young boys pushing the limit was too.
Should you buy one?
Check out the design as well as you can, test drive if able. Set some reasonable riding limits. And watch them ride.

This is why my answer to the OP's question would be "No".

I had a Go Kart when I was 4 at the latest...
Granted I was constantly wrecking the shite out it and damn near decapitated myself by running up under dad's old GMC truck....batwing steering wheel. I turn the wheel to 12 and 6 at the very last minute and it caught the fender and stopped the cart from going under.

I did buy a go-kart pre dirt bike era for him and it was safe enough in a field with a roll cage, etc. I believe it had a 5 hp B&S engine. He rolled it once and it held up. He used it while 6 and 7 yrs old.

whatever you get, require a helmet;
my youngest sister's friend had a go-cart; five years old; fell out, hit her head, died on the way to the hospital

My ex bro in law bought his two kids small atv's for Xmas. His daughter was on it less than a minute when she came across the yard and took me out standing at a fence with my back to the shenanigans. Went to UAB to get xrayed to make sure a blood vessel hadn't been torn. ACL PCL meniscus.
Nobody yelled at me or nothing. They just stood and watched. Eight months later i pulled the plug on the marriage. That was the proverbial straw.

My son has had one since he was 7. It a full sized one for adults that goes 35mph. He has been driving trails since he could reach the petals of a power wheels. I take the time to make sure he is driving safely with every new motorized vehicle. I busted him jumping a 6' dirt mound the other day. I had to fuss him for that one.

Hell yeah. My grandson has been on a Yamaha PW50 since he turned 3 (never training wheels - you go from balance bike to Stacyc to dirt bike). He’s 4 now and has been tearing up his own motocross track on my land for a while now. There are 5-7 year old kids all over the country on Cobra and KTM 50s hitting 40-50 foot jumps. 7 years old is more than ready for anything with proper supervision.

If he wants a 4 wheeler, get him a 4 wheeler.
By 7 I had a 70 Honda 3 wheeler that I had put a million miles on. That's not too young. You can govern the kid bikes way down.
Same with the 70. Then the 90. Then the 200x. Then the 250R
My brothers and I raised hell on those things.
