Anyone feel strongly about this topic? Particularly looking at Pythons, but any experiences appreciated.

I bought a 5 inch GP 100 over the 6 inch.

I liked the balance of the 5 inch better. When I was reading into it I remember coming across something along the lines of 5 inches being ideal for an all around .357 handgun. I’ll see if I can find it

I handled a 6” python today and liked it, but there wasn’t a 5” to compare it to. If anything, I thought it may be just a touch front end heavy.

I do have a 4” SW 66-2 and a 4” Kimber DASA already.

I’ve handled both and to be honest there really isn’t a big difference between the 5 inch and 6 inch gp100

6 inch is slightly more front heavy, but slightly better with recoil.

Congrats on your purchase. I’ve had mine for years and it’s an awesome gun. It’s my woods gun

And it’s a touch more accurate with a touch more velocity.

That’s why I bought it. Kill snakes, hogs and trespassers.

What holster you got?

Man I really like my Bianchi leather holster.

Quality leather and craftsmanship and a fair price

Doesn't matter. Whichever one you think looks cooler.

Personally, my favorite is a 4” barrel.

Take this fwiw, I'm older, I've had a lot of pistols over the years .... a number of revolvers.

I still have most of them.

I get it, I had a Python back in the 70s. The newer ones are actually way better. All the snake pistols are fine but .... you're not going to beat a S&W 686-6 for value or quality or accuracy or ergonomics or anything else I can think of. Get it in nickle, pachmeyr grips, hiviz front post, tritium green notched rear .... you'll own and cherish that pistol the reat of your life and you'll pass it down to your grandkids.

I've never heard a bad thing about any of them. S&W has them down to a science. Either the 4" or 6" barrels .... you can't go wrong.

I personally prefer the 6".

Love my 4” S&W 686. Lightly buffed the frame and added some altamont grips. Now I want a 6” and a short 2.5”.

586 is blued. Do they even make a 586 anymore?

I’ve got 2 6” pythons already. I’ll probably end up with one of those 4.25” blue pythons soon.

. I like the 6” barrel. That’s what I have. .357 S&W 686-6. With a worked trigger. Shoots like a little rifle.
