Pretty much all of our 1 1/2 year old deer are spikes.
We don't shoot many of them any more.
It's not a rule, but it's usually always kids that shoot spikes.
Now, if I get a spike in front of me while bow hunting, I will likely shoot him.
IF I even get to bow hunt this year.

Have you ever let a buck walk? Does anyone at your club let bucks walk?

3 Point RuleScrew each and every one of these rules. Go to the camp, have fun, decide among yourselves what to shoot and what not to shoot. I'll quit deer hunting before I worry about all these stipulations on what I can and cannot shoot because some jackasses in tensas parish think you should only kill 18" wide 8 points in Louisiana. We'll decide that among ourselves and I suggest everyone else does the same. If you can't come to an agreement that you're happy with, maybe you should look elsewhere for hunting property rather than looking to the state to force everyone else to conform to your ideas.

I agree with the above. Ya'll hunt within your rules and let the rest of us spend our time ,money and resources the way we wish.
Good hunting to all of you.

It's all fine and dandy when one is talking private land. One public, the brown and down guys ruin it for the rest of us.

I'm sure you already know this, but here goes...the game harvest laws are set up to give every hunter an equal opportunity to kill a deer to take home for food. They are not set up to ensure a hunter will kill a mature buck. I would prefer to call them the "if it's legal, it's down" guys. If I hunted on public land, which thank god I don't, I would be more prone to bitch about the state regulations instead of about the guys out there that are killing legal deer.

On a side note, thank god we don't have doe days like we used to. I hardly ever saw deer back in those days. And we see them almost every weekend now.

same off season thread as every year and the same guys saying the same things.

next will be a high fence thread(Millerman vs the world), then a "is a private land deer the same trophy as public" thread.

I'm ready to hunt.

Rages suck, 243's are for queers, and Crossbows don't cause inbreeding and poor dental hygiene. We should see these soon too

A counter point to that is that wild animals aren't owned by anyone and they do not respect property lines. What someone does on their property affects their neighbors.

So, unless your property is big enough and your only hunt the middle of that property, you are going to affect what your neighbors are trying to do on their property.

bucks must weigh at least 160

Where I hunt in SW AR, we'd NEVER get to kill a deer w/ this rule in place. The rules are a good idea for deer management, but gotta be careful getting to specific. The MAIN thing is hunters being able to at least roughly age deer on the hoof. But it's easier and faster to count "1, 2, 3...BOOM" than it is to age deer.

What kind of whacked arse question is that? I've let a pile of them go. Having to drag it a quarter mile is enough incentive to make sure it has some decent handles.

If that were the case where I hunt, I'd only shoot fawns so I could throw em over my shoulder and carry em out.

While I understand what DWSFTs I still think it would be beneficial for there to be some type of restrictions. Nothing to complicated, I think 3 on one side would be a decent state mandate. However concerning public land I think there should diff be some tougher restrictions especially in the better areas of the state. Say St. Landry north through the river parishes.

Exactly! That's why real men hunt with Walker hounds.

As long as people have different goals management will struggle. Some want to fill a freezer, some just want any buck and others want to grow big ones. The last is the hardest to accommodate.

The truth is there will never be a perfect set of regs. The three point rule is great but has flaws, mostly some old forkhorns. Spread restrictions allow some beauties to walk. Age can be tough to judge, etc.

Yea the 3 point is the easiest on hunters and which is why I think its the only one that is fair for being a state wide restriction. The tougher restrictions can be implemented in the better public areas in the state. Another think that they could do with the bigger WMAs is have half with the tougher restriction and the other with the 3 side rule.
