Thanks for the input. Did you get the 270WSM or the regular 270win? I've never owned a Tikka before but I've gotta say I love the feel and looks of it. Looks like a well made rifle other than the magazine. My magazine is made from some kind of plastic that looks and feels cheap. Should have a metal magazine but maybe I'm just being picky.

He is correct. Short mags are also inherently less accurate. A lot of custom rifle makers refuse to chamber any short mags because they can't put their accuracy guarantee on them

Shorter barrels with equal or better performance in some cases which can equal lighter weight. So suck a dick and yes I'm trolling you

love .270 win because its so common, but I think that is why other people hate it.

to fuel the fire, add .260 to the debate.

If/when I do make the jump up from a standard round it will be to an ultra mag or equivalent. 7 or 300 RUM most likely.

we have a stand at our camp ground that has min of a 200yd shot. the deer normally cross between 300-400yds. we have ranged it many times and have markers on the side of the lane marking distance. the longest kill shot I have seen is 367yds. I shoot an abolt 7wsm browning. I have dropped one at 330yds 2 years ago and killed 5+ deer over the years between 250-300. I have missed way more deer than I have hit at that distance. I joke that most hunters don't know what 300 yds looks like.

Nope. On some forums the 6.5 Creedmoor has taken on nearly mythical qualities. It's basically a 260 Rem loaded to slightly higher pressures. Comparing it's trajectory at 500 yds to the 270 WSM is not a fair comparison. In fact, using similar Hornady Superformance (loaded to higher velocity than regular factory loads) factory loads for comparison, the regular 270 Win shoots flatter than the Creedmoor and nearly as flat as the 270 WSM (when regular loads are used in the WSM). All loads zeroed for 200 yds.
6.5 Creedmoor 129 gr SST 129 gr SST
muzzle velocity 2950 fps
trajectory at 500 yds=39.5" drop
270 Win 130 gr SST 130 gr SST
muzzle velocity 3200 fps
trajectory at 500 yds=33.7" drop.

270 WSM 130 gr Ballistic Silver Tip
muzzle velocity 3275 fps
trajectory at 500 yds=32.8" drop.

As you can see, depending on what loads are used, the 270 WSM has little, if hardly any, advantage over the regular 270.

Yes.
Here's a really good article about the 270 WSM.

Add .280 in there as well. I am seriously pondering over one at the moment.

go with the 280 Ackley Improved. You can shoot 280rem through it too (fireforms the brass if you reload)

280AI is one of the best cartridges out there. 7 mag performance with 30-06 recoil

I was too, but couldn't make it work logistically. Got an uncle that's killed a pile of deer with a .280 REm.

For long range and deer I prefer my 25-06AI, however I dont get to shoot it much bc its set up for long range. The 120gr Hornady hot loads I have come out screaming.

The rounds are hand loads I get a buddy of mine to do. I will have to look but there scooting along around 3400 fps IIRC.

If you think that's fast, check out Ferguson Rifles. He does some wicked fast loads. 4100 fps out of his .30 cal "Habanero" .30-378.

I have an A-bolt too, and when I first got it, I had trouble keeping dead zero on it - I knew it wasn't the scope (Leica). So, I decided to take my torque screwdriver and firm-down all the connections between the action and stock. What I found was: the action screws were not torqued to 40 in lbs. Once I put some Loctite on it and torqued it properly, it became a gun which consistently produces 3/4" grouping at 100yds -- hope this helps, good luck.
