Not all, but a lot of broadheads (especially mechanical) will need blades replaced after shooting a deer. Blades are somewhat sacrificial.

Yup, I will shoot each of my broadheads once at a target to make sure they fly true (even with quality control, a bad apple could be out there). I make sure I have new, sharp blades on afterwards and hunt. After every time I shoot one of the broadheads I replace the blades. It'll add up, cost wise, but I want the sharpest blades possible and no mistakes

Yeah, definitely won't be doing that again. Just wanted to make sure my broadheads were sighting in the same as my field points.

Also, in my defense, I really didn't expect the second shot to be as equally bad as the first. Must have had something off in the way I drew back (was sitting on a stool I'm going to be using).

Think I'll just pick up a different broadhead next time.

It shouldn't make that much difference, if you keep shooting the same dull blades over and over. I have a couple sets of slick trick blades that I use when i'm tuning my bow/broadheads. Once I have everything ready I put on fresh blades. I can and have sharpened the blades after shooting deer, but for $25 for 4 sets of blades, it's not hardly worth the effort.

Yeah, if I'm just target shooting I wont change them. I mean that before I shoot an animal, I have new/sharp blades on

Well Carbon Express no longer makes the Mayhem Hunter 350's that I bought in 2014. They now have the Mayhem Hunter DS 350. These arrows went from 9.8 GPI to 10.03 GPI. It's not a huge increase but it will change my sights slightly.

Danm. You is a serious mofo if that makes a difference. That's 2.3% difference. You must be a hell of a marksman.

I understand that it seems crazy, it's only 7 grains. 20 yards it won't be a huge issue. 30 yards it probably won't. But if you stretch it out, it definitely will and I'm planning a trip out west for September 2018 so I want to have it right

Got pretty lucky with this group yesterday out to 40yds. Most of my groups where within 2-3" but this was my best. Shot a few out to 50yds but ran out of daylight.

Bow shop has had my bow for 2 weeks when they told me it would be 5 days. All I wanted was a new string and a tune

Am I the only one that doesn't like to shoot groups? My target has multiple dots for a reason. Arrows are too damn expensive to be busting shafts or fletchings. Now if my buddies and I are target practicing together, I aim for their nocks.

My September routine is that I try to shoot 12-16 arrows a day. I start at 20yds, if all 4 shots are good, the next shots are from 30yds, and so on to 40 yds. I also mix in some elevated shots from my porch.

I use a single pin slider, so I have to shoot for elevation out to 60 yards just to sight in my bow. I love practicing at 60-80 yds, makes that target really big at 20. Also, let's you know real quick if your bow is out of tune or your form is off. I limit myself on deer to about 30 yds though.

I shoot a Truglo slider/pendulum. My max practice range at my house is 40yds because that's all my yard allows but when we all get together to practice, we usually set up a 50 yd target.

You could look like an idiot like me and shoot from your neighbors yard, across the street, through your open gate, to the target at the back of your property.

Great advice. And to add to that make sure you have a way to either self rescue or a suspension relief device. If you hang for a little while with a 4 point harness on you'll be just as dead as if you'd fell 30 feet.

Speaking of, my switch to a rock climbing harness has got to be one of the top 2 or 3 "hunting equipment" decisions I have ever made.

To get even more excited, Heartland Bowhunter's mini series Behind the Draw just released Season 4 Episode 1, Shredder, yesterday.

Great stuff

What type of release y'all use?

I have a trigger style. I've read on how to get a suprised release but can't seem to figure it out. Wonder if I should consider a back tension release?
