I have a lease in Caldwell Parish just west of the Ouachita river north of Grayson, LA.

I'm not quite ready for bow season yet.
When I was shooting regularly I was fairly proficient out to 50 yds... Now I limit myself to 20-30 yds because I don't practice as much.

I put a couple of cameras up last weekend but haven't checked them yet.
I will be bringing my camper up to the lease next weekend.
I will check my cameras and make sure my bow stands are trimmed up and ready for October 1st.

Looking forward to being in a tree on Oct 1. Will drill the first nanny I see. I'll probably pass on a big nuts to allow my kids more to shoot at later in the year. But if he's a real big nuts who knows.

Getting close. I have waited all year for the powerline company to finish widening a powerline. Finally finished. I have been waiting so I could build a shooting house/camp on the edge.

I have it up but it isn't yet finished. Been working everyday due to a turn around at work and hoping I can make it up to my place this weekend to finish up everything on the shooting house and the food plots.

Will be hunting with a crossbow for the first time ever this season.

Thanks for starting this thread. Seems like a good place to leave this before season starts - please check safety belts and lanyards as well as any safety strap that may have been left in tree over the summer. Goes for lifelines as well. Strap in when checking stands! Seems like we always see a post about someone knowing of a hunter that fell and was seriously injured or worse. Stay safe and live to hunt another day brothers!

13 year old daughter is ready to get a shot with her bow. We tried a couple times last year with no shot opportunities. Went last weekend to practice climbing and shooting from our lock-ons. Ready to find some hot acorn dropping oak trees to get her first deer with her bow. She got tired of shooting them with her gun.

Bow hunted a few times myself as a teenager but never killed anything. Two bad shoulders make it impossible to shoot now. Just happy she enjoys it and getting her one will be much more exciting than shooting one myself anyway.

This is awesome. Good luck to her!

Behind my house I have 5.5 acres of swamp that I own. The first 150 yds is higher than the rest so I have a little plot and lock on there. Since I've been in the house I've killed two does back there and seen a few small bucks. Wasn't super pumped about hunting it until after Oct 16 since we are bucks only for the first two weeks.

Well yesterday afternoon, I took the bike back there to chop and plant my little food plot(30 yd circle of rackmaster elite). Finished up and loaded everything on the bike to head back to the house and on the way in I jumped a nice 8. Surprised the hell out of me, but you can guess where Ill be Oct 1.

Check out the Weyerhauser website over the summer. Their lease rates are very good in SE OK--about $4-5/acre. Drive 20 miles and cross into Arkansas and they jump to about $10.

I know where to look for them. More asking about like going and physically looking at property or just seeing pics and leasing over internet since it's a pretty good haul.

States like OK, KS, MO OH etc have good tools for leasing over internet, and prices seem fair. I'm just skeptical about leasing property I have not walked, and it would suck really bad to drive 12 hrs to look at a potential lease and have it not go well.

For anyone "in the know": the regulations state that archery is either-sex unless a bucks only season is open. Does that mean that when Sherburne, for instance, has modern firearm bucks only, archers can only take bucks as well? Because reading the WMA-specific regs, it seems to me that archery is still either sex at that time.

Maybe I'm reading too much into the "bucks only" line on page 40.

It is poorly worded but when it is a buck only season, at any point, that takes precedent.

You can bow hunt all year long but if it is gun season and buck only, then you can only shoot a buck with your bow

I'm about 99.99% sure that is correct.
