If they want to know about people who used to duck hunt but no longer hunt, I would have helped him by filling out his form. But it doesn't look like that is a priority at all for him or the office.
But we specifically asked about it.
1) Again, to have been selected for the survey you had to either have a duck license or been in the HIP database and reported killing at least 1 duck or goose in the 2013 season. So either there is an error in the database (and there are some) or you haven't been quit very long.
2) The survey clearly offers the choice of "did not hunt waterfowl in Louisiana last season" on a number of questions, but asks you to continue with the survey. The second question asks in which seasons did you hunt of the last 5 years.
So we would like to know about those who no longer hunt. As I said before, a surprising number of hunters don't hunt every year but still consider themselves duck hunters and have opinions about zones, bag limits, and other regulatory policies. Their (and your) answers to other questions on the survey can be compared to hunters that hunt every year to see if they have different preferences.
The questions on the survey clearly ask for feedback from people like you, so don't act like it doesn't. But like always, it is up to you whether to provide it or not.
What I said in my last post was that a "Lapsed Hunter Survey", ie. a survey of only hunters that had quit hunting, was not a priority for us at this time for obvious reasons. This survey clearly includes hunters that didn't hunt last year or in recent years.

Got the postcard. Filled out survey today. Past few seasons have been great.

Larry, I really appreciate you posting here from time to time with this kind of info...
I participated in a program a decade or so ago where I was asked to submit a wing from each duck that I killed....does the department still do that? I haven't heard about anyone doing that in a long time now...

Mr. Larry,
Is the survey available online yet?

That is a component of the USFWS harvest survey and isn't done by the states. It is an ongoing operational survey done every year.

I'm not sure what time, but the press release is supposed to go out today. When that happens, the open-web portion of the survey will be displayed on the front page of the LDWF website.
Thanks everybody for your participation!

Because our active duck hunter numbers have nearly doubled since 2005
Thanks Duck Dynasty, for ruining our sport.

Larry comes here to post quality information a couple times a year on his own free will.
It's not his fault that bird numbers in the state are up or down or what have you. Also, Harvest numbers are dictated by a litany of other issues that we have no control over(for the most part).
My point is, don't kill the messenger. I believe most posters on this board enjoy getting straight forward information from the source.

I would be interested to see the increase in active hunter numbers since DD first aired in March of 2012. I wonder if there is a way to see the yearly numbers plotted out over a 20 year span?

like 88 days with a 2-bird bag for specklebelly geese for example.
I like the sound of that.
FWIW, we had a great year last year.

The people like you who constantly blame Duck Dynasty are much worse than the new hunters.

I'm doing the survey now.
Psst....pssst...hey...whats the answer to this one?
Would you prefer the current 3-zone system (Option A), a new 3-zone system (Coastal, West, and East) with an expanded East Zone (Option B), or a 2-zone system (North, Coastal) (Option C) for a 60 day duck season in the future? Under Options B and C, the northern boundary of the Coastal Zone is proposed as --
Hwy 90 from the MS border to its junction with LA-14,
West along LA-14 to its junction with I-10, and
West along 1-10 to the Texas border.
(Please mark one.)

Thanks Larry. As a hunter in the Coastal Zone I would like to thank you for pushing the opening back 1 week last year. I appreciate all that you do.
