I was doing some extensive yard demo this weekend and pulled up 2 sega palms. One of the palms was rather large so I put the truck in 4x4L, got the damn thing out the ground. The control on the dash stays lit on the 4L option, I can switch it to other options such as auto or 2 wheel drive and they light up and blink but it never gets out of 4L. In addition the traction control idiot light stays on as well.
The truck is normal other than that. TIA.

update - unhooked the battery as suggested and the unit switched from 4L to 2wd. I tested it both ways and unit switched while in park or neutral. thanks

Either the switch in the dash or the actuator (encoder motor in the transfere case) is bad.

Encoder motor retails for about $460 and switch in the dash is about $80

Had it happen on my 2012. I did forward, reverse, moved the switch a few times. Nothing. Disconnected the battery, let it set for an hour, repeated and it returned to 2WD

All four of those things are spot on. Also, if it doesn't switch to 4hi, move forward a little bit and then try again. If that doesn't work, the first two answers should solve it

unhook attery cable, then turn key to start position and hold for thirty seconds. That clears the computer. Then reattach cable and see if it resets.

the switch in the dash for my truck went out when stuck in 4H, ordered a new switch, from wal mart actually, and threw it in, worked like a charm

Thanks everyone I'll give the suggestions a try - I've already tried the neutral suggestion.

For future reference, the switch is eitther $19 or $31 at rockauto, and the module is $316. He probably needs it today though, but if not, rockauto is almost always the best option

Is the module/shift motor plug and play?

It's usually the switch in the dash that goes bad mine had the same problem. You can order the part for about $50 online.

Since you obviously haven't used it, I'll let you in on a little secret.

They sell OEM parts as well as parts from manufacturers who make things that are then rebranded OEM. My fuel pump I just replaced was like $600 from the Chevy dealership. From rockauto, the exact same AC Delco one was $317

AC/Delco offers 3 levels of pumps:
good
better
best

$317 for the module was still to high. We sell them for $265, every day, all day.

No. There is one specific AC Delco fuel pump for my truck with one specific part number. That was the difference.

Look it up if you want, but that was the after tax price all around the New Orleans metro area.
