I didn't know that but at a party on Sunday I heard someone talking about old BR, and how North BR used to be very similar to Metaire. Similar to how people left NOLA for Mandeville.

Plank Road and Scenic Highway had thriving retail establishments that included national chains (J.C. Penny, etc.), restaurants (Leon's Italian Restaurant), car dealerships (most of your Big 3 dealerships were in this area), etc. Now this area is known for drergs and ho's.

70802 should be better long-term with the redevelopment and infill plans in place. Not to mention, I think they recently extended BRAVE to 70802 as well, so they might experience a similar murder reduction as 70805.

Oh, yeah. If you go drive around that area of the city, it's got a great urban layout. Dense residential areas with commercial spaces intermixed. Very walkable and community-integrated. Similar to the bottom. If it ever gets gentrified, it will be very desirable as there is a dearth of that type of development throughout Baton Rouge.

Air drop $1 bills and then follow that drop with a Napalm drop.... Problem solved.

Does anybody here remember when this areas was a predominantly white, blue-collar, neighborhood? It really wasn't that long ago.

No, I don't remember the 1950's.

In the 80s my street I lived on was mostly white. Ride my bike everywhere or walked everywhere. My parents not the least bit worried about us kids roaming the neighborhood with our friends during the day during summers.

ETA: you came home for lunch, kool aid breaks and your butt better be inside when the street lights came on at night.

BBC has been doing a few stories on Louisiana recently.

They've done stories on the loss of the Louisiana coast, St. George, voodoo, and the wild pig overpopulation.

That was PBS.

Aka white flight. Assholes can't stomach living near brown people and take off for the nearest suburb in town that's 30 miles away. Then people wonder why traffic is so horrendous going into town in the morning, and out of town in the evening.

Yeah, I grew-up in Brownsfield in the 80s. It's north of 70805, not far from the airport. It wasn't bad at all back then. From the time that I was 5 or 6, groups of us would go to the park without any adults. I wouldn't even fathom letting my kid do that nowadays, regardless of how safe the neighborhood is.

Why are they "assholes" because they want to escape the inevitable plummeting property values and increasing crime that comes with growing low income infiltration into an area?

If they collectively refused to leave, would this still happen?

Sounds like my experience in the 70806 in the '90s.

I never understand why liberals consider white flight a bad thing.
If i live in a neighborhood and it ripe with rape, murder, aids and other criminal activity, i'm not going to stick it out just to try and show people i'm so tolerant that i'm willing to be murdered to show that. That's 100% stupidity.
And i'm sure you are going to say, "well instead of leaving, try fixing the issue." If it's 1 or 2 houses that are the problem, ok. But if the entire fricking section of a city is just like this, then you are outnumbered, and no amount of liberal tolerance is going to change the crime rates there.

People don't like to live next to murderers and rapists. I know it's a silly thing, but they just don't. So call me a racist a-hole for leaving a warzone to live in a homogenous neighborhood filled with friendly caring families that help each other and generally want to just raise their kids somewhere safe. You go ahead and be tolerant and show the world you're not racists by hanging out with the "thugging it and lovin it" crowd, and good luck avoiding arse rape and murder and God help you if you want to raise kids in those neighborhoods.

You call it white flight, i call it providing a safe living for my family.

And, i'm sure you are one of the same "tolerant" liberals that condemn gentrification, which is simply trying to make the neighborhood better. I never understand why you lefties get so upset over people trying to make a neighborhood better, safer, and economically more profitable. Instead you say that is racist because it is taking away the culture of a neighborhood. Murder and Rape isn't culture. It's a crime.
