BUBYE VALLEY CONSERVANCY, Zimbabwe — It is the country where Cecil the lion was killed, sparking international anger against the American dentist who shot him.

The outcry over Walter Palmer’s killing of Cecil drove other big-game hunters away from Zimbabwe, fearful they too would attract the ire of the public.

But in what is being described as a side effect of the affair, Zimbabwe’s largest wildlife area says it now finds itself suffering from an overpopulation of lions.

So that dentist is actually a hero if you think about it

Overpopulation in a year? That isn't how this works.

The average American has no idea that hunting is required to keep numbers down of certain species of animals in order to maintain the health of the species

Wasn't Cecil lured off of protected land to be shot? I thought the stink of it was something other than some guy killing a lion (to those who know about hunting as a means of population control).

Correct. It would be like killing a zoo animal. But don't let that get in the way of the hunter martyrdom. That dentist is an a-hole. And I'm a hunter.

Americans are becoming the world's biggest figs. Their lives are dictated by 140 characters and likes.

Scruffy remembers Craig the lion.

He was that zebra that every human being knew and loved.

Scruffy still mourns that gopher's passing.

This is just Zimbabwe using scare tactics to try and get those hunting tourism $$$ back up, not because they actually need to kill 200 lions for some bs betterment of the species.

Nature kept itself in check. We have an inordinate amount of impact on nature since we essentially live outside of it. That results in us having to take abnormal measures to maintain balance in these small pockets of "nature" that we've created.
