Article on YC's manager's reaction to Uber coming to BR.

quote:

If the company does bring its services to Baton Rouge, Wyckoff says Yellow Cab has mobile technology in place to begin offering its own ridesharing services. “We've been preparing for this for a long time,” he says.
Yea of course they do. And its only going to come out if Uber comes to BR? Nice.

Would anyone join if this comes out? Could a good bit of money be made by Sober Drivers friday and saturday nights downtown?

I wouldn't join but I'd use the shite out of it. It's a wonderful service.

I always love the safety angle, as if the cab drivers in use today are some gold standard of propriety and morality.

I'm confused, he bashes Uber(admittedly I've never heard of this before), then says that Yellow Cab is ready to offer the same service as Uber?

yep and the other angle of but the fare could rob you..... Can fares not rob regular cabs? hell i would think the uber drivers are safer being that the ip address of the phone used would easily be tracked over a random phone call to a operator that gets hundreds of calls a night.

he is bashing it more for regular people could just decide to give ride not the mobile technology.

If the technology is in place, why isnt it used. rather dumb business decision to pay for an upgrade and not use it dont you think.

not to mention Uber background checks everyone and has all their personal information. People are dumb who don't want Uber in their town…especially BR and NOLA where the cab systems are shite.

NOLA has a ton of cabs but they almost all suck…United is by far the largest, and they have the worst customer service in the world. You can call them for a cab, then if it doesn't show up in 10 minutes, you gotta call them back then they just submit another que. They have no rhyme or reason to how they track anything. I hope all the Cabs go out of business in NOLA.

I hope the comment section is a good indicator of BR's general willingness to accept Uber. We know that the cab companies will be trying to grease palms left and right to get them blocked for some bullshite regulatory reason.

also from that link:
quote:

it was possible that she had used Uber (where she allegedly has an account) to get home.

Although police reputedly contest the claim that the woman used Uber to get home that night, Dencer is an Uber driver. Upon becoming aware of Dencer’s arrest, Uber suspended his account and officials said in a statement, “the facts are unknown at this stage and it's certainly unclear that this is an Uber-related incident, as the driver in question was not logged in, connected to or operating on the platform at the time.”

I used Uber when I was in Boston, I'd like to see it here in Louisiana.
