File an insurance claim for a chipped windshield and watch that premium go up.
Comprehensive claims usually do not drive your rates up. Lots of comprehensive damages can occur when your car is stationary, i.e. tree branch falling on your car.

Wrong
Please inform me on what part is wrong.
I have had the LSP pull the guilty gravel trucks over on 3 occasions, and every time they were cited for not securing their load properly.
...and the windshield was replaced via the driver's insurance.

I am the type of person who doesn't sweat the small stuff. Personally, I wouldn't give a eff.

My windshield runs about $250 installed.
I'd rather pay the $68 comprehensive and have no worries.

Serious answer since I went through this recently with a $1600 windshield on my 2016 work car

2016 Mercedes and it has a damn camera in the windshield that has something to do with the lane and traffic monitoring system. I had no idea the windshields were going to cost that much believe me. I am going back to a Suburban after this car.

Like you'll ever see a 200 ft cushion behind every dump truck on the interstate

Still shows up as a claim on my CLUE report.

If you have a gravel truck not tarped they can get a ticket. They still aren't responsible for you windshield unless you prove they actually broke it.
And if they or any vehicle throws something from their wheel they are not responsible either.

"most insurance companies cover chips". Not Allstate.

Guaranteed the top truck has a sign that they're not responsible for damage. They'll just argue that you were closer than 200 feet. Your fault.
I love that anyone anywhere actually believes those signs are legitimate. It's to scare off those stupid enough to think they don't have a claim because the truck had a sign. I'm not saying it's cut and dry easy to say the rock was from their truck and they were to blame, but if you can prove it, the "stay back" sign is not going to help them. Especially on a 3 lane interstate. If they are in the middle lane going 60 in 70. Is it just tough shite for everyone else. Don't try to pass them or you'll get within 200'.
I think I'm going to put a sign on my car. "Stay Back 200' or else I'm not responsible for anything ever. All laws cease to exist in relation to me if you are within 200' of this vehicle".

Owner called back about an hour later and said he was sorry but he had no trucks carrying any aggregate and that I was SOL.
They were probably sitting around the phone like this.

Trucks aren't liable for gravel anymore really. Go to safelite while it's smaller than a dollar bill and get it filled.
Now, if a metal tie down would've fallen off and shattered your windshield, that's a different story.
But it didn't now, did it.
This too ^^^

So?
I don't know whether they are liable or not, but if they're not, it's not because they put a fricking sign on their truck. If that were all it took, I could just put a sign on my car saying "not responsible for damage caused by accidents" and be immune from ever being sued for an accident even if it was my fault.

Those signs are meaningless and you can easily win against companies that put up those not responsible signs if they cause the damage.
Posted on 1/6/16 at 2:03 pm to Dam Guide
Those signs aren't worth the material they are printed on. They are not even a bump in the road for a good attorney.
Of course, the issue is proving that the offending material did actually come from the truck.

Get out of here with that, you fricking poor. OT ballers just replace the whole car.

Is there really no recourse of action for something like this?
Nope. That's why most insurance companies will cover crack repairs.
The only time you can ever really do something about a rock hitting your windshield is if someone threw it at you.

Is your work car a Ferrari?
If it isn't, you got fricked on that deal.
