I haven't taken mine off either. Just the front panels.

Hardtops are quieter and tend not to leak as much. They are harder to remove. As stated above, its a two person job or you need a winch system in your garage to remove.
As for a soft top, which I have and prefer, are noisier and do tend to leak (factory brand)but you can remove it on a whim and enjoy the freedom.
As for owning a Jeep, realize what you are buying. Its a Jeep, not a Denali or a some sort of car. Its loud, gets shitty gas millage, things break, top leaks but its a Jeep.

It takes 5 minutes to take to hard top off. Maybe 15 min. if you're an idiot.

Only problem is you cant take it with you. There is a soft top model that requires minimal new hardware and sort of conforms to the roll-bar... in case you want to switch back of forth between tops.

no this was an actual jeep trail that the pink jeep tours in sedona go on. No way you can drive on it unless you have high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle. I actually had to learn how to use the 4 wd stick thingey....that was kinda scary at first for me I'm freaking out and my husband telling me to stop being a wuss and learn how to drive my jeep like it is supposed to be driven.

Exactly.
But compared to my '83 CJ7, the new Jeeps are like a Bentley!

Leave me alone....I'm a chick with a jeep.

At least I'm better than the soccer moms that drive them and the jeep never leaves pavement.

My husband already looking at trading his in. His 2013 Rubicon. Said he will do it if he can find one with everything he wants this time. It has a rattle that he cannot find and everytime he brings it into dealership....it stops doing it.

I have an older TJ but the concept is the same. I bought it 2.5 years ago and the guy had just bought a soft top for it and a hand crank winch for removing the hardtop. I mounted it in my garage and it takes about 10 minutes start to finish to remove it. About 15 to put it back on. I ended up selling the soft top he had with it because I wanted a different style. The one I have is frameless and uses the roll bars for support. It has a fastback type of look to it. And it makes is easier to put it up or down because you're not dealing with rails and snaps. Doubles as a safari/bikini top by just taking the windows out. The first couple of times I took the hardtop on or off I just got my brother in law to help me. But last winter I used the winch instead. I have it on now but when I take it off again I have an old pallet I screwed some wheels on so I can just roll it to the back of my basement and not hang it from the ceiling.

I also had an old YJ back in high school and college and the tops have come a long way since then.

Hardtop I only use from about November to March. Just rarely warm enough to take it down then and it is quieter.

The wench idea is good, but I'm more worried about having the ability to put the top back on incase of a freak storm. I thought that I'd eventually get the hardtop for winter, but wanted to start with the soft.

This is what I want to avoid. I want to be able to get the top off pretty easily to help ensure I'm taking advantage of that feature.

The soft ones will fold in on themselves and stay connected to the Jeep so you can ride around with it and put it up if you need to.

A bikini top option would be a cheaper option. You can pull over and put that on in case of a freak storm while you are out driving.

Or just invest in a good rain jacket.

How waterproof is the interior? I read its washable with a couple drains built in, but was curious how you keep the dash from getting wet?

Not sure about dash. I would invest in good seat covers though if you plan on driving without top a lot. My husband has neoprene ones(think wetsuit material) that protect his seats. Think it was $200-250 for front and back seats. They are a pain to put on the seats at first though but worth the money.

And I wasn't joking about the rain jacket. My husband keeps one in his at all times just in case. Get the ones that compress up into a pouch and you can easily store in that back locker thing in floor of jeep.
