Price would make a difference and where you are parking. Gas mileage is about the same.

For instance, mine is a pain to park and drive around New Orleans. Lots of blind spots and street parking can get limited due to size.

The top is pretty much the same for removal on both.

There's a pretty decent amount of room in the 2 door if the Back seat is laying down. There is a hell of a lot of of room in the 4 door with the seats down. Go to the dealership and try them both. I had a fold and tumble rear seat in my CJ7. I carried my blown I-6 to the scrap yard in the back of it.

It's really about how much space you want. If you have a big dog...I'd get the Unlimited. The rear seats in the unlimited fold down very easily to create more room. You can buy a thick rubber mat for the jeep and place over the seats when it's folded down(that's what my husband and I do). For me...I needed a vehicle that I would be able to eventually fit a baby in a carseat in the back AND still have room for our dogs. 4 dr one allows that.

Do the 2 doors come with freedom tops? If so, that would make it damn near a 1 man operation to remove.

Hardtop also will increase resale value. And a better idea if you have to frequently park your jeep where you are worried it might get broken into.

Yeah but if you don't have a garage or place to store the hardtop(ex: you live in a apt or condo) and you want to remove top...soft top will be better option for you.

It's not that it's really heavy...just not something you can do by yourself unless you have special equipment for it(garage mounts, etc). My husband always calls a friend to help him take his off...he doesn't trust me to help him with it

The difference being a soft top travels well while the hardtop does not. I work 65 miles from home, chances are I'll hit a storm at some point and I'd like to have a top readily available to put up in that instance.

Again...they have bikini top options that would work with this. I even remember seeing a fabric top that you can put on for sudden storms if need be...$120

Uh, yeah on a nice day. Is that weird?

And yeah I may invest in the bikini top as well. Either way the one I'm looking at is a hardtop, so we can all stop trying to sell me on why it's better
I just want the soft top for summer.

Another thing to consider with the softtop is that when it is down...it does take up space in the back.

I'm trying to talk my husband out of trading in his 2 year old jeep for a newer one with EVERYTHING he really wanted on it. So I've been hearing a TON of jeep talk lately from him regarding the new lighter ones coming out, bikini top options, should he get soft top or dual top or hard top again, etc. It is jeep talk 24/7 from him right now.

Yeah I figure the trunk space will be useless with he top down, but it will at least leave the backseat open for the dogs/passengers.

I say let him.

And may I recommend in Tank Green.

Eta: the exact one I'm looking at(in the best color option)

My windows are rarely zipped in when my soft top is installed so it takes all of 2 minutes to put it up or down. I carry the windows in the back underneath the cargo mat.

As for security, in twenty years I've never had anything stolen from my jeeps. I've got a tuffy lockable hatch for the rear floor for valuables and guns (Not available for '15 wranglers because of the relocated subwoofer) and I've had tuffy security center consoles in other models.

Added bonus of a soft top is that you can never lock your keys in the car!

I'm trying to be supportive. His 2013 Rubicon hardtop has less than 15K miles on it. But it has a rattle that mechanics can not find the source of everytime he brings it in that is driving him crazy. He figures that since he has such low miles...he would get a really good trade on it towards a new one.

Nah you still got trunk. Carry two bungie straps. When the top is folded down, wrap them around the top on either side of the tire. It keeps the top bundled up pretty tight and it's not flapping or parachuting while driving. They make boots for it too but it's a needless expense in my opinion.
