You see that often, and many times the III goes by Trey, but if you're going to do that then what is the point of passing on the name? I'm genuinely curious.

I really don't know. I'd assume maybe it's just kind of internal pressure to keep it going.

My oldest son is named after me (My real name, Jr.)

But I'm named after my uncle who was murdered as a teen so its a family name that has sentimental value in our family

I know a family who has a boy and a girl. The boy is a Junior and the girl has the same name as the mother.

If you think you might have more than one child I wouldnt consider it just incase you have two sons one doesn't feel "left out". Also take into consideration what you will have to do as officially change your name to be Sr.

My son is the 4th Robert, but we all have different middle names. My grandfather was called his middle name, and my Father was for a while then he switched to his first name. My son is called by his middle name as well. It also helped in naming that my wife's grandfather and uncle were also Robert, so it was a family name from both sides.

Not that it really matters, but going with I, II, III, etc. or Sr. and Jr. is supposed to be reserved for the exact same name only. Regardless, would you be upset if your son went in a different direction for your grandson?

I certainly didn't want to name either of my boys after myself but while I've mostly indifferent now I hated that I wasn't IV when I was a kid.

Do you have the exact same name as your uncle? If so, you and your son are both Sr. and Jr. as well as the II and III, if you so chose.

If I was a Jr or any subsequent suffix, I'd campaign with Mrs. Caster to continue that if we were to have a boy.

I'm not a Jr., though, so here's my personal policy: If she wants to name the boy after me, I take that as a compliment, agree with the name, and commence giving her a well-deserved foot rub.

You don't have to change your name to Sr

You know you dont have to officially change your name to Sr. if you name your child Jr. right?

Although I've never seen it either way, I'd imagine a female would lean towards I and II instead of Sr. and Jr.

I would not give my son my name, because I do not like my middle name.

No.

I was a junior, and I did not want my kid to be "the 3rd."

Ah okay, well in the traditional sense you are still the I and your son the II.

What if I'm a Jr in a position of power that needs psychiatric treatment? (kidding, no treatment needed)

I didn't name my boy the III, the name dies with me.

Makes you look like a conceited father that didn't even have the decency to give your son his own identity

I don't mind my name at all, but because of my personality I'm pretty confident my peers would think going with a Jr. was a narcissistic decision. I don't really care what they think about me, but I wouldn't want my son to have to deal with it too.

right

but I dont guy by Sr. or the First... not until I build my empire

I wont pressure my son to name his son the third, but I will give him the family history of the name obviously and why it was important to me to keep the name going and let him make his own choice

unless he tries to name his son Bryson or Chaz or some awful fricking name

then im going to fill in the birth certificate for him when he's not looking
