Yep. Do you know if there's a way to disable/enable Alexa listening? You'd be able to set a trigger to get around that problem.

As soon as I finished typing that last sentence I realized you could just have it on a wifi outlet that turns off when you leave and back on when you arrive.

I'll go out on a limb and say I'm pretty sure they thought about the possibilities much more carefully than you or I have.

That isn't to say nothing can go wrong, just that it won't be something obvious.

Hate to break it to you chief but if they want to get in, they will. They aren't worried about your front door or how fancy the lock is.

Plenty of people have their locks/alarms controlled by their phones. Why is this an issue? No use to me until they add an unlock feature though. This would only be utilized if someone without a key needs to access my home, which I can't do without an unlock feature.

Someone can connect to a password protected home wifi network pretty easily. Once they've done that, they have everything that's on that network. Chrysler learned that when people were hacking cars that had wifi and taking control of them.

If you're going to automate your home like that, you need better than 'basic' network security.

No one is going to sit in your driveway and "hack" into your network instead of just breaking in

First of all

Second of all, home automation is the absolute least of my worries if I thought hackers were invading my home network in my driveway.

Third of all, criminals can always just break a window or a lock or a door or whatever. Home automation doesn't make it any easier or harder to break into your house than it already is.

I just got Alexa last week. Pretty cool, although I don't have all the smart shite in my house yet to fully take advantage.

ever since i saw that video a few years back of a dude using a knife to CUT A DOOR IN THE SIDING and walk through the wall of a house in like 20 seconds i threw my hands up worrying about the door lock.

there's another one of a guy doing something similar with a brick house. crazy how 'easy' it is to come right through the damn wall; forget the door or windows.

A bump key will get you into most houses nearly as fast as having the real key.
